knocking coming from rear wheel/axle/vlsd

I have an 89 240 with an sr and vlsd and stuff but the last couple weeks it's been making this knocking sound. It comes from the back of the car and seems to be toward the left side, coming from the wheel maybe. The strange thing is it knocks more rapidly at higher rpm, not speed. Also it becomes much more rapid when i turn right and goes away when turning left. Any ideas? questions? it's kind of hard to describe so sorry if this doesn't really make any sense.

really really loud knocking noise? really nast sounding? if so it sounds like the noise is coming from your differential due to lack of oil

not really nasty or loud. well kinda loud. it's more of a dull knocking sound. and it does it if i'm rolling in nuetral too. If i put the clutch in and rev it up while rolling it becomes more frequent.

ya check your driveshaft too..but i say top off the oil in your differential
