Your valve need to be adjusted? Really? No not really. If it's a tapping noise and you still have your chain guide, start by taking that off and seeing if the sound goes away.

One thing I think people need to remember is that these are junk yard motors. Don't expect them to be 100% factory ready.

Timing chain rattle has a definite difference of sound from a rod knock. I've even seen main bearings get ready to spin and make a knocking noise just like a rod. Usually, if the noise is low in sound, you caught the bearing before it spun and did any damage.

Knowing the difference is just one of those things you learn with experience I suppose. I can't actually describe what it sounds like, but I could pick it out if I were standing there.

I've got a metallic sound, almost like a loose bracket being tossed around inside the engine somewhere. Only shows up when engine is warm & the beat is not consistent.

Could this be the timing chain guide???

I've been told that rod knock is consistent in beat, and sounds like someone knocking on a wood door. Is this true?

Thanks x 1,000

WOW. I don't even know where to begin on this post. Oh yeah I know now. First off it doesn't make ANY sense. Second off you misspelled the name O great ignorant one. It's Jehovah's Witness. 3rd off of what relevance was any of that to the issue at hand? Besides restating what everyone already knows you contributed nothing with that. Thanks.

yea the issue at hand was a very unspecific question to a problem that can be millions of things the fact that he thought he could ajust the valves in this motor leeds me to belive this is all quite new to him. i never claimed to be an expert,i come on here and learn as much as i can from the "inteligent" posts and was making light of a problem which iv already gone through myself. il keep in mind that theres people in here like you that moderate and evaluate every single word in here to keep it as informative as it is. thanks for your expansive knowledge guy please for give me ; the most iggnorant 1

Are you sure that the lifters arent pumped up yet due to the motor sitting for so long ??? How long did you let the motor run before you shut it off ??
