welp here we are, my daily driver NA only had it a year now and it looks like it's been mistreated before I got her.
I have cleaned the throttle bodies, new alternator, starter solenoid, o2's, spark plugs, and did a balance test and it looks like each cylinder is firing correctly.

I have had a huge loss of power and alot of knocking and problems in just the past 2 months and I am really trying to diagnose what the problem is so i can fix it myself on my own time.

Any recommendations to do to her for maintenance wise?
Engine was replaced from water/salvage damage at 90k miles, i'm at 160k now.

And hopefully somebody can tell me what this knocking resembles or what I am looking at for prices for this repair.

Thanks for any help guys, love the community and wish i could just get my NA to run decent for daily driver, eventually i'll go TT.

That sounds a lot like lifter tick. Have you tried using either the Z1 engine cleaning or ATF? You could just have sticky injectors, happens with age and /or sitting for a period of time.

Have you also check the ecu for codes? Not just seeing the check engine light, but physically pulling codes from the ecu?

haven't checked ecu code, don't know how to, I know the method for 95 and older but 96 doesn't have the same modes I believe?

I haven't gotten to do anything about the ticking yet, ATF in the oil or what?

I have OBD2 and I always have a egr code, just afraid to eliminate it but can't afford to replace. I reset the CEL every once in a while

What exactly did you do with the ATF? Did you let it run for a little bit, drive it, or anything to that nature? Its very possible you have a collapsed lifter, no amount of additives or cleaners will help that still in the car.

I ran it through for 3 days, only drove the car about 50miles or so, then did another oil change.

the knocking did go down quieter but then after oil change I can hear it again, not as loud, but the ATF seems to have made it alot quieter when it was in there.

Yep, sounds about right. Pretty much what I did, but worked great for me. Another thing to try is Z1's engine flush. Its like 15, but I have it does pretty good. If that doesn't work may have to look into new lifters.

What kind of oil and weight do you use? Where are you located?

Either they went way up or its been some time since I have looked at it. oh well, lol.

Have you tried thicker oil? Have you checked oil pressure with a mechanical gauge?

Definitively try a thicker oil. My cold lifter tick has never come back.

Hey bro, did you ever find out the issue with your car? Mine does the same thing - I tried motor honey and it seemed to quiet it for a while but now, 60 miles later, it's louder than ever.
