knocking after oil change??

i changed my oil and filter this weekend. royal purple 10w40 and fram filter. before i was using mobile1 synthetic 10w30. yesterday i heard like a knocking sound that seems to only be heard if u put ur ear to the valve cover. could this oil be causing this. like it's maybe too thin or thick? i put in four qrts. please help.
