Well, after being back home for almost 4 weeks, the ethanol gas has done damage. My 02 sensor shot out code P0138/0139 today. It came up bank 1 sensor 2 but I don't know if its upstream or downstream. I gotta look up the info in the fsm to see if its up or downstream and also to see if its left or right.

Now, after 208k trouble free miles, I pulled the knock sensor code P0325 bank 1 sensor 1. Again, I got to look up the info in the fsm to see where it's located at. Since I was at autozone, I asked for the price at it came up to $132(2)! I was told that two knock sensors are used.

I see that I have to open the vault to purchase items from probably IOS since I was in the process of ordering my lower control arm and tension rod bushings from them.

Any Y33 owners who had knock sensors issues...where did you purchase your sensors from? Is this an simple job to replace myself or how much do you think that I should pay for this service? Since I'm back in Alabama, I'll have to find T3.

sensor 2 is going to be the downstream one, after the cat.. bank 1 is the drivers side.

you can get the KS from ebay, all 90-01 nissans use the same one, 22060-30P00 I believe is the correct part number...

Thanks buddy!!! I forgot all about eBay. I will go on there right now. Two more quick questions after readign some previous posts...

1) Do I have to replace the harness the original knock sensor is attached too? I read that you have to or its a good rule of thumb. If i do have to replace harness, do you have that part number buddy???

2) The people at autozone said that I have to purchase two or that two need to be purchased at the same time. So Wess...If I purchase some from ebay, do I purchase two of the same knock sensors in the auction?

Ethanol had NOTHING to do with your knock sensors or O2 sensor failures!!!!! Heat, time, and miles are the reasons both fail.

Just to show you how much more reliable the 98 was over the 90 Q45 by 10 years and 208k I had spent $27,000 mostly at reduced labor rates of T3.

A year later 2002 [220-230k] I rebuilt many things with a new transmission , diff, rear subframe, ac system, alternator, new headlight lens for $2200* that would have cost $9,000 at dealer.

Of course everyones sensitivities and standards vary.

I'm impressed that these things have lasted this long.

The point is to relax and practice bending over

* went halves on a wreck that had been totally rebuilt on front then got rear ended driving out of body shop. $750 provided $5,000 in new parts

I never said that it had anything to do with knock sensors, but I did think that bad gas could cause failure with O2 sensors. As far as time and mileage being a factor for failure...I think that everyone knows that!

The only thing that I need to know at this point is if there are two knock sensors per bank...4 total or one per bank, 2 total? The failed ks was bank 1 sensor 1 which is located on the driver's side. After looking at fsm, the pic looks like there are only one per bank but when I looked up the part on various site and even Autozone, it states that 2 are used...as if I need to purchase two ks for bank 1.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I can change out the 02 sensor myself once I have the car lifted to change my oil.

Bro I'm riding on a bad Knock Sensor also, it's about ~$130 for 2 of them. That's the good news...the bad news is I was quoted at $1400 for parts and labor! That is why I've learned to deal with it. I don't know how handy you are, but from what I've read, it takes roughly ~ 10 hours of work and you have to take apart A LOT. I'm not that handy, so I'm going to wait 'till I save up enough money to get it done and at the same time, I'll get the Knock Sensor harness replaced, all the plenum hoses and some other parts that need replacing. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Thanks for all the response. I can get the OEM knock sensor off of eBay (thanks wess) between $45-55 which is a steal and I can get the O2 sensor for cheap too. I can change the O2 sensor myself but I am not handy or have the time to spend 10hrs for a knock sensor. Mtz...$1400 for labor/parts!?! I wonder if this is a big job for the FGY33's. Does anyone know? 10hrs... How long have you been riding with the bad knock sensor?

I have a set of new knock sensors off ebay and a good used set. Obviously both have with them their respective risks but. . .

Look for my old post on changing the knock sensors-book labor is removing the plenum but it can be done by just removing fan, alternator and a hose buried deep under the plenum.

As for O2 sensors, the rears are a piece of cake, the front passenger is not too bad from the top but the driver front -oh man.

But there is a trick. Remove the master cylinder and brake booster and let them dangle in the engine bay. You don't have to remove the brake lines as there is enough slack in them to move the whole assembly out of the way and then front driver O2 sensor is a snap.

Getting the bolts back onto the brake booster inside the car under the steering wheel was tough on the upper passenger nut but i did it by taping it to my finger.

Good luck

Thanks BAndy! This is exactly what I needed to know. I've been searching the site for KS but my search came up empty. I will search KS under your name. As far as the o2 sensor, I can change the one behind the rear cat myself. I just have to get to it. It only makes since I'm guessing....is to go ahead and change both of the KS since everything will be broken down. Andy, I'm not in OK anymore...actually have a new engineering job with Southern Company in Birmingham, so how about we set up a time and I can pay you to do mine in Atl I'm willing to get my hands dirty with you also!

Well, I'd actually be up for that for a little dough, i've done three 97+ cars now and fell pretty good about the process. I'm exactly in the middle of Atlanta for figuring purposes.

If we're gonna do the work then we cant use either set of my knock sensors that i have in case they don't work and we have to do it again!!

Are the KS new or used?

Proof would help.

Thanks for the replies! Andy, I will email you off site to set up a time. I know that Atl is flooded right now (well atleast my entry of I-20E/W) so I will have to wait until those roads are open to me again. I will go ahead and order the oem knock sensors off of eBay that I saw. Andy, do I have to replace the harness?

Also this this beast will be torn apart, I think that I will go ahead and purchase the a/c pulley or bearings. The one I purchased from you awhile back is rattling. I think that one is causing the noise (atleast when someone "looked" at it, that's the one he pointed out).

On top of all this madness, I just found out that my front left cat has an exhaust leak ! It sounds horrible...I'll probably chop that thing off because I don't think they make aftermarket cats..
