My car's ecu has always thrown a code 34 and I was wondering is there any harm in having that code on an na Z. I know it retards the timing a few degrees but is that about it? Also would a relocated knock sensor fix the issue?

A relocated knock sensor would solve the issue, but the issue is more than likely with the sensor harness rather than the sensor itself.

even so doesn't the engine have to be out to get to the wiring harness..? Or is there a way to get to it without doing that?

the engine harness connects to the knock subharness a the back of the engine, most people who reloate just buy a new subharness to hook to the newly relocated knock sensor, and just leave the old ones down there

You can unplug the harness from the knock sensor...it has its own cable that comes up the backside of the motor (subharness). Your best bet would be to get a resistor (1 meg-ohm i think...but dont hold me to that) and put it on the connector from the wiring harness (car side) and pull the codes. If it clears up, its the knock sensor or subharness. If it persist, its on the wiring harness, in which case i would just rewire a new connector on...thats what i did and the problem cleared up. Otherwise just get a new sensor and harness and relocate to the back of the plenum.
