do you have a knock sensor code??, if so check the wiring first, follow the factory service manual steps..... if the wiring checks out, then you will have to change the knock sensor itself.....the bad news is that it is very hard to get to (if the engine is in the car).... the good news is that it can be relocated, i've seen it somewhere, it works and it works great (according to what i have read from several people who have done it), but i really cant remember where....... i'll look it up, meanwhile, i hope that someone here has seen it too, and can shime in

I'd like to know more about the relocation, never heard of that before for a knock sensor...

if you just want to bypass the code, you can use a 100k resistor to bypass it...

its real simple and easy, as long as you are not running turbo and 91+ octane at all times you can safely bypass the knock sensor. stock timing map is faily conservative.

just remove the knock sensor connector and stick a 100k resistor and complete the circuit. no more code.

That's not what he said (or at least what he meant).

You need to run AT LEAST 91 octain.

Anything less than that might cause knocking and with the knock sensor bypassed that would be bad for the engine as it wouldn't have anyway to pull some timing back.

Lucky you, we are not able to get 93 octane out of the pump in california. 91 is the highest you can buy

91+ wont make it unsafe, you are safe if you run 91+

89 octane is still pretty safe, might get mild detonation, but 91+ is good

OK, so I looked throught the FSM and cannot figure out where the knock sensor harness is to do the bypass so I can test if this is actually the problem ....

can someone take a picture of the little bugger and post it up for me so I can try this.
