knock sensor

i have an 1987 maxima does it have a knock sensor an if so where is it,and what effect does it have on performance.

I'm not sure if it does or not. If it does, it is probably located under the intake manifold, but I am not 100% sure of that either.One thing I do knopw about, is that the knock sensor retards your timing in order to prevent detonation. When it detects a spark knock, it will do it's job. Un-necessary retardation of timing will give you a loss of power, and a loss in gas mileage.
