Why would you relocate it, and where are you relocating it to?

I've heard of this being done on fourth gens but haven't seen anything about doing this to fifth gens.

I thought the problem had been resolved...?

If you're going to hack it anyways, why not just install a resistor in line?

Resistors tend to cause other problems, and can lead to knocking even with premium fuel. Most people go with a 470k ohm resistor, though. The relocated knock sensor is a good compromise between "faking it" and using the knock sensor. You still get some benefit, but you don't get the "false knock" that the stock location can sometimes cause.

That's my understanding, anyway. All I know is what I've read. I know this is much more common on VG33E and -ER Xterras using fourth gen Maxima knock sensor harnesses. The S/C Xterra people tend to prefer the relocation to the resisitor method, because the car can still turn back the boost if there's a problem. Obviously, this isn't an issue for the Maxima.

why is it such a problem to just REPLACE the damn sensor and use it as nissan designed??

Be glad your cars only have 1 KS... VH45 has 2...

BTW you can find cheap ones on ebay usually NIB for about half the price of dealers... 22060-300P0 is the right part number and its the same for nearly every nissan.

It's going to be under the intake manifold/runners.
