Hey guys and gals. I have a question. Does anyone know the resistance for the knock sensor? The reason that I want to know is the ecu is throwing the code because the timing chain is loose and it is slapping around a little bit at idle. So until I have the money to get the timing chain fixed I want to put a resistor in its place. I know that it is not the knock sensor or the harness because I have already redone the wiring and got a new knock sensor. Thanks in advance.

Disconnect the sensor at the little plug near the TB.

and put the resistor in right? I think i saw in a fsm or somthing that the car retards timing automatically if it dosent pickup the knock sensor at all, to be safe if it fails

why would you turn on the car with the knock sensor unplugged to test it? you just need to put an ohm meter right at the plugs for the knock sensor and take the measurement from there. If it's not in spec, replace the knock sensor. If it is then just put the connector back onto the engine harness and move onto the next part of your diagnoses.

i was wondering if in the time im wating for my sensor i coudl use a resistor in its place, so i can still drive.

No, just unplug it and see if the problem persists...

Then it should drive fine.

If the ECU sees no knock sensor input, it should drive fine..or at least better than it does now.

It's worth a try, and can't really hurt anything.

Let us know how it turns out... - Brian

seems to work well under gentle throttle modulation, but if i go from 20% to 80%(stomp pedal) it misses like hell. mabye my timing needs readjusted now...

update: reset timing, but car does go in diffrent mode w/o sensor- i think it retards tioming to be safe from pings... no that i go that figured out-my timing chain snapped and i need a new motor:(
