Just bought a 1998 Q45 with 126,000 miles I'm the 3rd owner car is in very good shape. I did notice on test drive and when I have been driving it that it seems a little bogged down power is smooth but never immediate. I had a 95 i30 with the same problem only a little worse and it was fixed with a new knock sensor. I've seen on several other forums that the knock sensor code does not throw a CEL. How can I test sensors and if they are bad is possible to change without completely removing all the plumbing and the lower plenum? I've read several people say it could be done but couldn't find a technique/tools list on how to do it. I've worked on my own vehicles before but I don't want to do any unnecessary work if I don't have to..... FYI fresh to using forums and not just reading them. Any tips on how to better search titles would be appreciated.

:welcome: to NICO!

Although the knock sensors may not illuminate the check engine light, the code should be stored. You could buy a Bluetooth code reader online to use with a smart phone or tablet, or many parts stores will read them for free. You can check your car's factory service manual at www.infinitiservicemanuel.com to confirm if the KS will light up the MIL.

Hi - I read on this forum that someone was able to do it - and the guy is an airplane mechanic - All I remember is he did it by feel and a light - you can get to it - it's just that you can't see it -
Re-read and search the forum and I will also try to find the original post myself...
