Knock sensor question

i'm hooking up all the small stuff on my car to get it running today. while hooking up the harness found a plug near the intake manifold with nothin to go in it. looked real qucik and saw there was no knock sensor on the block. they guy that had the engine before me used an SDS and guess didnt need it. what bothers me is that i switched intake manifolds and didnt notice. now its goin to be a pain to hook up since the engine is in the car. my question is what would happen if i ran the car without the knock sensor? i know i will eventually get it in sincei have 2 weeks til i can drive the car but im just wondering.

doesnt the knock sensor just prevent pre-det by retarding the timing? so ir u run good gas and go ez on the motor til u get one it should be ok right?

thats what i figured. i got 2 weeks til i can drive the car, waiting for driveshaft, i would like to start it up tho and make sure it runs before tho
