knock sensor question

someone told me that if u sieze ur engine the knock sensors go badmine only had like 7k on them i find it hard to believeanybody know?it was not a violent high speed death

Since the motor did not overheat, the KS will not be bad.....

My engine failed much the same way that yours did, on my old Q... I inspected the KS (which had about the same mileage as yours) and they were just as new.....

I mentioned the same thing in your other thread. I think it's an "overheated" motor that can *toast* knocks (pardon the pun ).

That's the best way - just put a 500k resistor in there or have someone reprogram the ECU to ignore them.

I think that's incredibly unwise unless you can proof your gasoline everytime you fill and you don't dirve in ambient temperatures above 80° F.

I bet the Nissan engineers didn't just put them in there to clear the manufacturing parts bins.

Nissan put them there to protect the engine against idiots who use 87 octane. The stock timing maps are incredibly conservative, and you will never see pinging with 91 or better unless something is wrong.

At any rate, the ECU only listens to them at low load levels, and at RPMs below 3,000 or so.
