will the knock sensor throw a ecu code if it detects pinging/detonation?(enough detonation not to damage the car)

(sry if this may sound like a n00b Q)

It will switch to the "knock" maps (more fuel, less timing) and then continue to monitor the knock to decide if it should switch back.

It doesnt switch back instantly if the knock is not sensed, it takes a certain amount of "no knock" conditions.

You can basically disable this function by setting your high octane and low octane (knock) maps the same.

It wont throw a code unless the knock sensor is out of range (damaged)

ahhh.

ok i was wondering, i think am gettin some detonation(tho spark plugs don't show), it sounds like a bad throwout bearing, but it sounds in the exhaust(more like when a car is overheating and bein ran), but i can only hear it at part throttle under load, i can't/don't hear it with just revvin in neutral.

the problem is i can't seem to set the timing right because whenever i disconnect the tps, the car wont idle @ ~650-750(idles 1000+), i tried lowering it by adjusting the iaa valve(screw @ back of intake manifold), but that wouldn't help, the only other way would be by retarding the timing, whenever i connect the tps back on it idles fine.

i try setting the dist timing through setting the crank pulley to TDC, then settin the dist to the bigger of the 2 dots @ the end of it, then checking with a timing gun @ 20deg.

(sorry this should be on ka, not ka-t as i don't own a ka-t, but though about posting here first because it was about the knock sensor, maybe ka-t'ers would look at something about it)

Dont bother pulling the tps, just get it to idle and hook up your timing light. Adjust dist. untill you get 20 degrees at 700-850 rpm and lock it down.

When doing this you want to make sure your tps closed idle switch works, and that it is closed at idle.

After this, disconnect/reconnect battery and run it again.
