So, I bought a CD version of the FSM because it's easier for me to navigate. I can only find a diagnostic for the knock sensor, nothing about the procedure to remove it. Does anybody know what page number the knock sensor removal is on? This would be a great help.

Search around here for the procedure. Its easier to remove the alternator and go under the plenum.

That's what I heard. I have looked around, but I can't find a definitive "how to". I think when I do mine (hopefully tomorrow) I will take some good pictures.

If your car has 80K miles on it, there is muc to be gained from cleaning the plenum, EGR and IAC valves, TB, lower runners and the only way to clean the EGR tube inside the plenum, which I guarantee is clogged with coked carbon.

Only thing one gains by not removing the plenum is ensuring the intake path remains contaminated.

Well, unfortunately, I can't afford to replace all the gaskets right now, so I am just doing the knock sensors. I plan on doing that later, but right now I need to get those done, so I can get it smogged and registered.

Is California Smog Test people making you change the knock sensor? KS should not effect emission. I passed Chicago / Illinois emission test with bad KS. After passing, they actually gave me the codes and I came to NICO to search on KS replacement procedures.

Kind of PIA to change it. Taking it apart was hard but putting it together was easy. Make sure to take pictures. Use Metric sockets and use one of those ratcheting wrenches (you will need these for the front fan assemblies and radiator hose clamps). Also, get one of those oil pump to pump out as much of the radiator fluid otherwise you will have lots of fluid pouring out when you remove the inlet hoses. I still have scars on my arm and fingers from the sharp corners.
