I have a 1995 J30 with a bad knock sensor. I have tried the resistor trick, and it worked like a charm. The car runs beautifully using this bypass. I have a new oem ks and factory wiring harness, but can't seem to get it to work properly.

Every time I connect it, the car runs like crap. Bogs down, high rpm, poor shifting, etc. I've tried to relocate it to several places on top of the engine, towards the back, with no luck. I did an ohm test last night and got 558 from the harness connected to the ks, and 557 from the ks itself.

I had the ks a little tight to begin with, but loosened it to just beyond hand tight without any success.

Any thoughts?

So you're trying to relocate the sensor instead of replacing it in it's stock location? I wouldn't recommend that, but I don't think that would cause your driveability issues.

Does your KS Harness have any other connectors coming off of it? I know the Q45's also has a yellow connector that connects to the ECU coolant temperature sensor... so if that wasn't connected to the new sensor - that could be your problem.

I think the ultimate solution is to get to work pulling the plenum and put it in the right place. I don't think Nissan put it in the middle of the valley just to make it a pain to get to when they fail... there's an engineering reason (e.g. the best place to "listen" for detonation) for placing it there.

With fuel quality being so poor now it's even more important than ever to have the KS functioning as intended to protect your engine.

The only connections from the harness are the ones that fit into the ks, and the ECU.

All I want to do is to get it to run as well as it did with the resistor plugged in to the ECU harness, because I'll be putting it up for the winter, and sellng it in the spring.

I'd put the money into putting the ks in the right place, but I'd never get that money back. And it would be nice for a potential buyer to step on the gas and actually go somewhere without major league engine lag.

As a seller you don't mind DEFRAUDING the buyer by relocating the KS to clear the code?

Oh no. I'm just a regular shmoe who has a problem relocating my sensor because I can't afford to have it done correctly. And wouldn't know how to.

I'm sorry if I tread in an area where I shouldn't.

Defraud? Never.

My ultimate wish is that someone buys my wife's car who either has the knowledge of how to fix the issues correctly, and will take good care of it, or has the financial resources to have it done. (I'm have niether.) 2 days under the hood by a good weekend mechanic, and this car will perform like a demon.

I did have someone interested at the beginning of the summer, and I spent 30 minutes going over the car and some of its quirks before he took it for a drive. So everything was up front. He was a wholesaler and knew guys who could fix it for him. He didn't buy it because he was looking at for his elderly parents, and it was uncomfortable to get in and out because it sits so low.
