Hey, I have a 93 240sx and I have advanced my ignition timing to 25* and I run 89 octane cause it's the lowest it will go w/o knocking it's arse off. It goes away with 89+

However I've been noticing lately that my car runs GREAT up to 75% throttle, it's hard, tight, strong, feels good. But at 100% throttle it bogs horribly and doesn't gain any acceleration over 75% throttle and it feels soft and boggy. It also has a smell of unburnt fuel for a few minutes after I do a good long open throttle run.

Is it possible that this is my knock sensor kicking my ignitions arse for being cheap on gas??

I've heard some people saying that the sensor won't change anything unless it senses a huge amount of audible knocking, and others saying that it will retard your timing and kill your fuel maps if it detects any at all, no matter how quiet it is.........Which is it??

I can't say for certain, but if you're running 5 degrees advanced, using only 89 octane I wouldn't be at all surprised if you're getting knock under load, especially in the middle of summer.

I don't know, why don't you just run a tank of the best stuff you can find 93 or 95 octane and see if it runs better? Just because you can't hear it knocking doesn't mean the knock sensor isn't picking **** up.

I run the 89 cause it's the lowest it'll go with out me hearing any kind of ping/knock

I've been told frequently that you want the run the lowest octane you can get away with. I never thought about the knock sensor till now and I have a half tank of 89.....no point in putting any more in it.....
