Knock Sensor Help!!!

I was trying to change the knock sensor on my zenki yesterday. While attempting to put in the new one the damn bolt dropped on intake, and I couldn't get to it. So I had to driver around with sensor off. The car felt sluggish while driving. So my question is does driving without the knock sensor have any affect on the engine?

Can driving with out the knock sensor damage the engine?
