hey now,
i'm new,
here goes.
i'm getting code 34 after getting a new sensor and installing it code 34 shows up. i checked the subharness for continuity, there is.
i checked harness from ecu to sub harness connector no continuity so there is a short. checked the wiring at both ends and it looked ok wires are connected. so i'm thinking i need some new wiring.
can i just run a new wire from the subharness to the ecu?
where can i get a wire like the one in the harness that is two wires in one and grounds itself out?

.....if you checked the wires and they're fine, why did you decide they're not?

Make sure all the plugs are okay and dry, with diaelectric in them.

Are you sure the new sensor is okay? Maybe you're getting a code for a sensed knock that it can't correct totally, not for a bad sensor? (never been quite sure on how that code works).

whats the issue? find the broken wire between the harness and ecu. Follow that colored wire

i just checked the ends of the wires to make sure they werent damaged at the connector and at the ecu they seemed fine but no continuity.
i also installed a resistor ( i tried 560ohm and a 1mega ohm) to bypass the sensor and still got code 34.

it's a white wire insulated within a black wire that has shielding that grounds out with other grounds.
taking the harness out is too much. i would rather get a new wire and run it to the ecu.
where would i be able to get a wire like that ?
would i be able to ground it to the chassis without any problems?

here's a pic. the white cable is the sensor the wire around the cable is the ground when i check for continuity there is no continuity in the white wire. when i check the ground wire i get continuity

If it's that easy to bypass, just do it at the ecu, put the resistors on a little loop right there at the main harness plug a few inches out, so you have plenty of room to reconnect it properly, if needbe. You could even upt a bypass plug, to make it super flexible....

Out of curiosity, does it run any different, maybe a little rough or the motor might rock some, while it's giving the 34?

ill try that.
the car runs fine if i fix the code it should run better i'm thinking.
i'm going to cut the knock sensor wire at the ecu connector connect it to one end of the resistor and ground the other end to the chassis.
does that sound right?

today i tried dropping in the resistors near the ecu and got code 34. i tried the 560ohm and 1mega ohm.
i wired pin 27 wire from the ecu connector to the resistor and grounded the other end to the chassi.
and no go.
is there something else that could give code 34? it's the only code that i'm getting.

i checked voltage at ecu 4.8
turned car on stayed 4.8
no voltage at harness connector.
i'll be getting a new shielded wire.

Right thats what Im saying, If there is no voltage at the connecter theres a short between ecu and sensor. Check for power to the fuse. If its good it can only be from there to the sensor. If there is no power, the short of between the fuse and ecu. It could be at the fuse box. Also make sure your wheel is not rubbing up on the wiring harness if your lowered. I guess you have to follow it by hand but it should be obvious enough when you find it.

finally i got code 55 :woot:
i snipped the connector wired one wire to the ecu and the other one to the ground on the battery.
connected connector to sub harness and that's it.
i just have to clean up the wiring.
