So as the title reads, my car is running rich and failed emissions. I've got codes 14 and code 34....code 14 i'm not worried about but code 34 is knock sensor. I followed the searched and followed the tutorial (thanks to vancouverbc for the write up) and so now i'm wondering how exactly I need to clear the codes....I followed the instructions from here http://www.ka24development.com/ecu_codes.html which state "To clear all stored codes and turn off the check engine light, turn the ‘mode selector’ screw fully clockwise. Wait at least 2 seconds, then turn the screw all the way back counter clockwise. Then start the car... ".......so my problem is that i'm still getting the same code...i have yet to take it to the emissions again to test it but anyone have any ideas about clearing the codes? i've unplugged my battery for a full day, followed these instructions and it still keeps reappearing. any help guys?

I think i've figured it out...i'm getting code 55 now which is good! my question now is, the 'diagnostic mode selector' screw is it supposed to stay fully conter clockwise, or full clockwise before I put my ecu away?

The harness that connects to the knock sensor to the main harness can be bad and throw a 34 code. I had that issue with my s13 ka24de.

damn I was afraid it might be the harness. It was easy getting the sensor off but putting the sensor back on was a pain in the ***. I'll have to try the harness now.

a buddy of mine had the same problem the knock sensor is fine its rare for one to go altho its not impossible. its your neutral safty switch. cant remaber exzacty what it does but i know it has something to do with the load on the vehicle and something with the injectors. i know the part isnt to much so try that out.

My knock sensor was definately toast....it had a crack right down the middle so even though it didn't fix the issue i'm glad I changed it out cuz I know I would've had to change it anyway....neutral safety switch i'll have to check that out, I searched and its on the side of the transmission. Could this cause car to run rich as hell though? i guess its possible if it has to do w/injectors. Since changing the MAF my rpms will go up and down between idle and 2000 rpm and then it drops beneath idle and if I don't stay on the gas it'll die...it only does it sparingly though. It hesitated on me a few times while cruising at normal speeds too. Anyone else have any input, i'm desperate for any advice.
