Lately my 95 has been bogging down and slowish in the 3K-3.5K RPM ranges, not always but it comes and goes. I can see on my wide band A/F gauge that as it happens my A/F ratio is really rich. Goes to about 11:1, sometimes on fwy if I let up on the throttle, it leans out as normal but then jumps back up to 11:1 without me giving it more fuel. Obviously something is. Also Iam getting a code 34, no CEL just the code. Ive read a lot about this but still don’t understand because of so many theories on how the system works. Please correct me (as im prob wrong) when the engine experiences a knock, it adds fuel and retards timing, but doesn’t throw a code cause that’s what its supposed to do. Ive read in numerous places that code 34 relates to a failed sensor, damaged harness or the shielding not being grounded out. I would like to add this 1M ohm resister I have read about for trouble shooting reasons. In the FSM it shows the white wire going from sensor, across pig tail to harness, then to ECU as you see in the pic the white wire is obvious, the second is the braided shield that is used to cancel out noise/interference, represented by cylindrical outline. If anybody can help, to tell me where and how they added this resistor, id appreciate it. I think it should be spliced in series with white wire, between F26 and 54/ECM but not sure. Is this done with all the plugs and sensor in place, or can I just pull off plug splice it in and not connect back to sensor side?

everything I've read you just unplug the sensor and jumper the plug with the resister. Havent had to try it though.

That makes sense if the sensor isnt hooked up. Im not sure i need to now. I pulled the harness apart and the ground wire had no insulation on it. I tested for continuity and it had .6-.8 Mega ohms depending on how i wiggled the harness. Is it safe to just ground that wire out someware. I would never do that at work but may do it for this.

It wouldn't hurt to try....worst case, it gets interference and throws a knock sensor code again.

Thats not the only problem. After I put the plug back together I was driving to work and my temp gauge dropped as low as it would go, so I was thinking that I was just in that area where the temp sensor is. I pulled over to take a look and started pulling the harness back. Found out my harness has been spliced. That would have been nice to know from the beginning. It would explain all the little problems that come and go. At least its a good sign in a way, now I know what to do.
