So I was plugging my engine harness up this weekend and seem to have run into quite the conundrum. The previous owner of my engine apparently deleted the knock sensor. So not only am I scared that something is wrong with my ca's guts, I'm also going to have to source one. Where then, do I find a knock sensor? If any of you have one lying around that works I would be more than willing to pay you for it!

Thanks,

Sky.

How did he bypass it? You can't just remove/unplug it. If you do, the ECU pics that up, retards the timing, and throws a code. He had to have wired up a resistor somewhere. Usually it's done by the ECU. If that's the case, the car will run the way it sits. If you want to reverse that, then you need to remove that resistor and run new wiring (it needs to be shielded) from the ECU to the knock sensor location. You're also going to have to try to find a plug for the knock sensor and they are HARD to find. They're a very odd plug.

Good luck!

I bought a wiring specialties harness, because the original harness was janky as hell. The original harness didn't have one so I assume it has a resistor somewhere on it. The wiring specialties has the plug for the knock sensor, I just need the sensor itself.

AH! Well you can get them new from the parts store (tell them you have an '89 Nissan Pulsar NX SE), but a quick check online shows them being about $75.

According to online sources, I can get a used rb knock sensor for $45, they have the same parts number as the ca18det (I think).
