SR20DET - intake plenum

I was wondering if Anyone has ever bought one of these knockoff greddy intake plenums

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...photo

I know you usually get what you pay for, but I have purchased things in the past that really surprised me! I was wondering if anyone had any info on these or similar products for an SR20DET

How is the quality? Are there any leaks? How does it bolt up?Any Problems?

and If you've noticed an increase in power/torque after installing it?Also, what did you do about the Throttle body? Can you use stock TB or upgrade to a larger TB?

I'm building my motor on a budget, but I'd rather keep the stock manifold if this is Junk and won't see any gains.

Let me know

knockoff greddy IM usually works but the casting quality isnt that great. If you really want to smooth it out you can take your time with a dremel to smooth out the ports.

Other then that it's not too shabby. The swivel fittings that it comes with it are garbage. They leak eventually and cause you to be frustrated trying to find vac/boost leak. Just replace them with a solid piece.

i've heard people complain about the ports not lining up, and numerous people just complaining about them... but none of the complainers actually owned them. That answered my next question about the vacuum leak i heard about.

Any other troubles with them? everything bolt up good? have you noticed any power/torque gains with this manifold? Anyone else have any serious comments to add? not just saying that they are a POS without owning one...

modifications need to be made for the oem fuel rail in order to fit. besides that the overall casting of the manifold is rough but that can be smoothed out as previously stated. As for fitment, everything is basically spot on. Besides the mediocre casting and cheap fittings, the performance resembles that of the greddy ones without its aesthetic qualities. if you're on a budget, its worth giving a try

i have the fake greddy on my s14 sr20det. once you port it and clean the casting its good to go. i do recomend getting your own fittings though. the ones that come with it are extra cheap.

yeah i remember having to grind off some of the fuel rail brackets to make it fit but wasnt a biggie.

It did not have any fitment issues tho.

thanks for posting guys, i'm not too worried about the extra casting that needs to be removed, a little of my time and some flat black paint will fix that right up.

but, can you give me more information on getting the manifold ported?if you don't do you not get enough air? runs bad? or is this just an extra step?and who did it for you?

Also, has anyone that bought one of these had other problems with the manifold? fitment issues, cracks, air leaks, or anything?other than what has already been discussed

Where did you get your replacement fittings and for how much?

I just took my friends die grinder and just took some extra material off the ports on the intake manifold. You can get a good idea about what the proper size and the shape is by sticking the intake manifold gasket to it. When I put the intake manifold on mine, it wasnt perfectly lined up, which is why I took the grinder to the ports.

To answer the other person's cold pipe question. They do sell a special cold pipe made for greddy intake manis. You can find knock off pipe from ebay, which is what I did and worked pretty well. The realy greddy piece cost about 80~90 bucks and I paid around 50 bucks for mine.

you can get the fittings from a local hardware store such as Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. Just take one of the fittings you got and take it to the store to make sure you get the same thread (size and pitch). Just pick out a solid 90 degree fitting this way you dont have to worry about the swivel breaking and leaking.

good info, i'm going to consider doing this. still waiting for some horror story's, but a couple hours of work to save $400 is worth it to me...

the stock fuel rail, what did you have to do to fit it?

I like mine. I didn't need to modify my fuel rail, fits just fine. Did smooth out the runners like the other guys were talking about and used different fittings. This winter I'm going to cut off the TB flange, have all the internal casting smoothed out and put on a 90 mm TB and probably ceramic coat the manifold. Over all I like it, definately feels nice not to spend a ton of money and achieve noticable gains. As far as the IC piping I'm a welder so changing that stuff wasn't a big deal. Good luck with your choice.

i used a fuel rail from an SR20DE, worked perfectly. Otherwise, the inside of the manifold is really rough, id work the inside a bit

I'm kind of leaning more towards a GTIR ITB manifold now. I'ver heard good and bad about this manifold...

If anyone has done the GTIR intake manifold swap, please post any problems you ran into while doing it. If anyone has any links to threads or sites that discuss this let me know
