Some friendly folks came by to look at my Q, and they noticed a very faint "knocking" noise coming from the rear-passenger side of the engine. I've never heard what engine knocking actually sounds like, so I assume that the faint rattle is a knock. Its clear to me that its not lifters.

Any ideas what this may be? Perhaps the alternator or something?

Thanks-Jesda

Ahhhh I have the exact same problem that I have heard every now and then...but this morning on a test drive with the mechanic I asked him about it and he thought that it was the injectors also. Does this in any way hinder performance or indicate the injector is failing or about to fail? This is coming fromt the exact same place....rear passenger side and I can only hear it when under light acceleration from cruising at 70mph.

The dealer is currently looking into the timing, knock sensors, and a couple other things to determine if something else is causing it...but it only happens under a very specific set of circumstances.

Oh, in case it helps... this was when the engine was at normal operating temperature after driving for an hour. Thanks for all the info.

me too....I only hear it from speeds of 70+mph with light acceleration from a cruising point. I notice it the most right after a WOT run (not during) and then let the car coast back down to 70mph and then lightly get on the throttle....I need to know if this is hurting my performance. I can't hear it at all during a full WOT run or just around town driving....only on the freeway.

Scratch my feedback since I only hear it when I am standing outside the car. It is more a slight rattle than a knock.

There is a TSB about this, and one of the throttle cables in the back rattles around (coming out of its lilttle holder) and bangs around.....

CHeck that first... Mine does this, and I just have to put it back when it starts doing it...

Yeah, that rattle was there in the winter. I was able to secure the cable. And it seems more like a very soft gentle rattle than a knock. I think I'll side with fuel injectors. The folks looking at buying my Q said they might consider taking it to the dealer to have that inspected before they buy it, so thats a plus.

And if no one buys it I'm keeping it!
