If it's the Auto knob, then it doesn't screw off. The piece of chrome trim at the bottom of the actual shift knob snaps down, revealing a clip. Once the clip is off the bastard comes right off.

If you have the Manual then I have no idea

Ive been trying to figure it out for a long time.. Its stuck because of the safety reverse switch.

I have seen some cars on car pages with the knob removed though, it is possible.

In the online FSM, TM-250 shows the automatic knob and how it comes off. Just be careful not to scratch the chrome cover on the botton when popping that down. Pull the wire retainer and the knob slides right off. Makes removing the cubby or doing audio work much easier!

dont even do that. you just have to keep trying to twist it. i dont know why you are having so much trouble with yours. maybe it does have some sort of glue on the threading of it. i do recall some plastic-ey sort of thing on the threading on the stick, so it could be that you have glue on it.

but just keep trying to turn it, eventually it should budge!

I was wondering to if replacing the OEM shift knob affects the reverse lock out?

yes it does effect the reverse lockout. it all depends on where the threading starts on the new shift knob, and how much of it extends downwards toward the lockout!

All the caps hurt my eyes

As for the auto shifter, yes there are certainly ways to change it. There are several good quality brands that make auto shifters, for example:

MOMO: http://www.racinglab.com/moauleshkna.html

Razo: http://www.autobarn.net/autshifknob.html

Be prepared to dish out at least 100 beans for a quality product though.

Thats the Razo RA95?96? i forget, but its the one with 340g of weight, it's really good and there arent that many knobs out there right now w/ the reverse lock-outs.

The links you provided are for the push down autos, the alty autos would only need a standard stick, since its pattern lockout instead of buttons.

Didn't the guy say that he needed a button to push?

Not sure if something changed between the 07 Sedan and the 08 Coupe, but my auto definitely requires a button... There is no pattern, it's just a line going down, with the exception of the "manual" mode.
