3 q's about my air filter replacement options going with K&N:

- Besides being about 3x the price of the drop in replacement filtercharger, is there that much of an improvement in getting the fipk?

- Basically the fipk is the only way to replace the entire airbox with a cone intake, right?

- The kn stock replacement is the flat filter that goes in the airbox, right?

fipk is what every other company calls a short ram intake or cold air intake or whatever. <not sure if kn is cold air?>its a tube with a cone filter and fittings so sensors match up nicely nicely.-Enzo

get the fipk. i first put in the filtercharger, which just replaces the stock filter. didn't notice much difference. then i put on the fipk, which is the cone filter and replaces the airbox. noticed big difference in throttle response, and also in sound. you can hear it sucking air, has kinda throaty sound. also if anyone needs stock airbox w/ kn filter for 90 240, let me know.

thanks! I'll prolly go with the fipk, but 1 last question:

Is the filtercharger washable/reusable like the fipk filter?

Unfortunately I don't think K&N makes the gen II fipk (the ram-air intake) for the S13... airbox replacement cone filter only...:(

as far as i know of, all K&N products are washable. . . it just costs a couple of $$ to get the oil to spray on after you wash the filter . . . I bought a 2nd cone filter so I could still drive while i wash and oil the 1st one (takes about a day to completely dry)

all k&n filters are washable, they gave me the oil and stuff with it when i bought the fipk. i wish they made the typhoon intake for the s13, but with the fipk alll you get is the cone filter and what is needed to install it. takes like 20 min. to do you use all the stock tubing, the only thing you take out is the airbox. either way i'm happy with mine

Don't use that oil.

It can destroy your MAFS. That oil should really only be used on cars equipped with MAP sensors (saturns, hondas, etc)

And aren'tthe FIPK systems like 200 bucks? Just get a regular filter and a MAF adapter, or an Apex cone filter or something.

I've found the fipks for about 130. How serious is that oil problem?
