So I swapped a KA24DE into my 90' Coupe. I followed the procedure listed on many write ups for the swap.

I cannot get my engine to stay running. I can start it up and if I hold the pedal 3/4 of the way down I can keep it running at a somewhat high RPM. The second I let off it slows down and dies. I can tap the gas pedal to keep it alive in the lower RPM range.

I've swapped in my spare MAF no luck, I've tried turning my distributor no luck, I tried playing with the idle screw no luck, I've tried screwing down the throttle cable so it holds the throttle plate open more than usual no luck, I've cleaned out my throttle body didn't help. MY PCV vacuum lines is hooked up, my Fuel Pressure Regulator Vacuum line is hooked up, my IACV- Idle Air Control Valve vacuum line is hooked up. New spark plugs aswell.

Only thing I can think of is the two vacuum lines off the EGR I blocked but the pipe is still connected between the EGR and the exhaust manifold (dont have a block off plate)

What else can I do? I'm running out of options.

TPS is connected, Even if it wasnt I've read you can unplug it and adjust the idle screw then plug the TPS back in so you can have the idle set where you want it. Oh when engine starts up it revs up kinda high and then will drop and try to die.

Can you still check the ECU for codes even after the DOHC swap. I thought all the un-connected interior wires were for diagnostic stuff.

Thanks again Tim

i have a dual over head cam the ecu has a little screw on the ecu turn it all the way clockwise then hold for a second then turn it back and your little light should blink like one fast beats and one slow beats then take said number and search on here for the engine codes . Hope this helps

I'm also going to clean out the IACV tomorrow aswell. My friend said to spray it out because it can get really dirty. I never had thought of doing that....hopefully I get more replies by tomorrow....otherwise I'll hope the ECU or cleaning helps.

Thanks

So checked the ECU and got codes 11, 12, and 41.

So Camshaft position sensor, Mass Air Flow Meter Sensor, and Intake Air temperature sensor.

I had my car running and unplugged the MAF and it started to die so it clearly is working. I know SOHC's have the Intake temp sensor but do DOHC's? I read a post where someone said they arn't even important.

The Cam position sensor is part of the distributor correct? You think I need to swap the Dizzy?

Any help would be appreciated.

well, swapped out the dizzy, the code 11, and 12 went away, now we only have code 41, but no change in the idle. You can hear what sounds like a vacuum leak, but we failed to locate the problem.

Alright Injectors were not sealing hence the whistle. I have no audible vacuum leaks now. Still no idle but feels better then it has after any of my other attempts. I also made a EGR block-off plate so its properly blocked now.

Other then checking timing and toying with the idle screw any other suggestions on how to get my car to idle?

Oh when the throttle is now depressed it seems like the valve in the throttle body is closed completely, is it suppose to look like that, or do I need to adjust the throttle cable where it mounts on the IM?

Today I'm picking up a used IACV off my friends motor that I know is in good working condition. Hopefully swapping this will solve my cars problem.
