my 2000 maxima shakes sometimes while driving. i can feel it mostly in the steering wheel. could this be something as simple as an improperly balanced tire? i thought it could be but at the same time if a tire was imbalanced i figured it would shake all the time. sometimesit feels worse than other times. ideas?

if it gets worse the faster you go it could be something in the lines of you needing rotate and balance or an alignment

Unlikely to be alignment related unless you have a severely worn part. The "not always" condition would lean a little to suspect inner cv joint wear and / or wheel balance , out of round tire(s) . Cv joint if over 100k miles or has had a "hard life" . Balance can get in & out " of sync " by turning corners .
