Hey, so yeah im kinda new here. I created an account awhile ago i get on to see all the sweet projects people are doing and well just look at 240's lol. These cars have been my favorite for a long time like ever since i was like 13 and saw a d sport magazine lol. Anyways Ive been recently thinking about selling my current car (98 pontiac sunfire) and try to get a decent 240. Well bad new struck me 4 days ago when i drove it to my friends house to clean it. It drove fine, i though at least, and well i washed waxed filled up the tank. bondo'd my rust spot, re-painted it, mag polished all the stains and my hubcaps. (there chrome all i had. lol). cleaned the inside-Armour all, washed the carpet and vacuumed. pretty much detailed the d*** thing. and well when 11:30 rolled around at night it wouldnt start. we tried jumpin it, push startin and nothing. well my sis came and got me. then the next day after school i got one of my buddy's who use to work at a auto shop borrowed the tow truck and towed it there (no cost :bigthumb: ) and when we got there the guy who owns it went to start it and right away got out and said that the timing chain broke which meant my valves are all bent and broke. So yeah it would have costed either 1300 to fix or 1500 to do a swap :bs:. right then and there my 240 dream was shattered :frown:. Well then today good news struck me when a kid i go to school with who knows nothing about cars and drives a mercedes to school has one. which was givin to him as a GIFT from our old football coach . I texted him and asked him how much he was selling it and to my good news only 900. :woot: it has a new exhaust(stock) new tires and about 150k on the KA24E. Its a 5 spd. the speedometer doesnt work, he said to use GPS. so tomarrow after i get my stuff out of my broke car:cry:, im gonna go and check it out. test drive it maybe take some pics. If anyone could tell me if this is a good deal or not that would be good help, or just plainly help me out with the car since im new to these cars. (never owned one)
Thanks guys, Trevor

Take some pictures, post em up. Try to find out all you can on the car, like if the struts need replacing, etc. At 900 bux, it's probably pretty ragged.

Welcome though!

Today after school got to test drive it :bigthumb:. The transmission shifts real smooth, clutch feels as if it was replace like 100 miles ago. the only bad thing about it, speedo dont work but comes with gps, rip in driver seat. Real dirty inside out(i dont think its ever been cleaned, but not too bad) Little rust here and there like by wheel wells, sides on the bottom and in the rear where the liscence plate is. Theres no bracket. Can it be replaced even with rust? Little crack in dash, glove box doesnt stay shut, ziptied shut. Umm..Motor runs strong, 150k on the odo. Some primer peelin off on the spoiler. He said i cant lock it? Anyone know if that could be fixed with out too much cost, he told me that it needs new locks or something. Tomarrow imma go to a town near by to turn in my title and get some cash money :chuckle:. Then going to show my mom the car and hopefully if she likes, its a done deal.
Wish me luck guys, and im sorry i didnt post pics i didnt have my cam after school. I can guarantee if i do get it im gettin pics up ASAP..if i know how?
Thanks again guys, ill let you know how it all goes.

Hey guys, so yeah i went to check out the 240. my mom test drove it. and....i got it for 850. The kid said it had the ka24e, turns out it has the ka24de. sooo happy after i found that out. Its got some rust, a dent in the right rear 1/4 panel. The locks i guess cant be unlocked by key so i cant unlock it. :frown:. When i got it, it looked as if he hadnt cleaned it for a year, i washed and vacummed the inside, armor-all'd and soon im gonna steam clean it and get all the dog hair out.

Here are some pics of it as of now. got home late cuz he was farming so its dark.

okay, how do i post pics on here. lol any help?

Yeah, you need to be careful w/ the rust; some more pics of the engine bay would make us either happier or more able to give you better advice ;) If it's rust-free, then you ought to be on the right track! Looks like everyone else already said it, but you've got a good car to work/learn on, for sure! I would find the nearest pick-n-pull/junkyard and scope out possible cars to acquire parts from.

yeah thats my first priority is getting the rust fixed. Does anyone know what will get all that oil spill off to clean it up? Do you think ill need a new gasket? Also what would be the best to seal it up?

Thanks, sorry if im asking a lot but im kinda new to this lol.

All the oil? Cover your electronics with plastic bags and rubber bands, then simple green, scrub brush, and a hose. Once you can see cleanly, then you can find where you're leaking oil, it's one of the many perks of having a clean engine ^.^

Simple Green? okay well tomarrow i dont work so imma get that and im gonna get some other stuff, like mats fuel injector cleaner, oil treatment , gas treatment. Then im probly gonna change my oil since idk when the kid last did it lol. and hopefully i can get that leaked stopped. What would be good to stop it like a sealant?

What are you going to seal if you don't know where it's leaking from? If it's coming from a gasket, buck up and replace the gasket, and save yourself future heartache.
