Got a little problem here, I just realized the hatch on my Qx4 isnt locking, push the lock button on the car or key fob and all the doors lock but not the trunk.

This is a HUGE security risk were I work. I dont know if this is relevant as I dont recall the last time I could "prove" my hatch was locking, but just a few weeks ago I unclipped the hatch plastic cover and put some sound deadner in there, but Im "pretty sure" it locked after that but I dont know I never test it!!

I took that cover off again just now and locked/unlocked doors and nothing makes a noise or tries to move or click or anything on the mechanical insides of the hatch.

I checked all the underdash fuses, all are working. My brake light and licence plate light work properly to.

Any ideas??

The front passenger, both rear doors, and the back hatch locks are all controlled and powered by the same single connection / pin on the smart entrance control unit. If it were a fuse, a faulty module, or something else like that, then it would affect all these doors, not just the back hatch. This limits the problem to either faulty wiring, an unplugged harness, or a damaged actuator.

Are you sure you didn't manage to unplug the harness for the hatch lock actuator, cut a wire or pull it out of the harness, etc when you were playing around back there? That's where I'd start looking. Or did you pack so much sound deadening foam in there that the actuator can't move? Looking at the FSM, the actuator is actually a few inches away from the latch, and it opens/closes it with a lever/arm that moves back and forth.

I had similar problems with my hatch, but in my case I could hear the actuator moving. I just had to adjust it so it caught onto the latch, and problem solved. Sounds like this isn't your problem.

What Densetsu said.

Remove the sound deader. See if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't, the connector is a bit forward of the taillight on the driver's side. Trace back to it. Did you
put sound deadener in there.? Check the connector.

what happens when you try locking it with key via keyhole on the trunk? can you lock/unlock it manually.

Well I definetely didnt put dynamat on any holes or over any parts, only a few pathes on the bare metal parts.

I figured the actuator may be weak so I tried pushing and pulling the rod off of it while pressing lock and unlock

Fueler, this may sound stupid, but I dont even think I ever noticed a keyhole in my hatch lol, always use the fob, I will besure to try that!!

Ill also trace the connection on the drivers side

I work nightshift so its 3am right now, Ill try and check it out again tomorrow.

If I can simply use the key to lock it I would be happy, Im never back there anyways

Thaks so far!!

I have the same problem. In 2003 my QX4 was rear-ended at 60 KM/H by a first gen pathfinder that created 30,000 in damage. It wasnt declared totaled but ever since then the rear hatch has never locked from the remote.

Well, I kinda solved 2 problems.

I completely forgot about the problem where when I pushed my glass hatch popper on the door panel it wouldnt pop the glass, I didnt care and forgot about it.

When I was playijng ith the key hole fueler reminded me of, I unlocked the glass lol

ANyways I can lock and unlock it with the key, but the remote does nothing.

I openned up the panel, and the only connection on the drivers side that I cant see is connected perfect

would love for it to close with the keyfob, but atleast Im glad I can just use a key when need be

heheh everyone who uses a keyfob forgets about the actual lock cylinders in the doors...

My keyfob hasnt worked in years, and my driver side lock is busted from a thief, so i actually use the trunk lock to open my doors every time...

(you know that if you turn it twice, it locks/unlocks all 4 doors? Also, turn it twice and hold it, it will bring the windows down or up in a 2001+)
