kind of new in the 240sx world and car has issues

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

ok heres the deal i just bought an 89 240sx from a neighbor. the car sat for like 2 years because it stoped running right and he took it to a shop and they told him the cat was bad.ok so i bought it for 500.the car didnt go over 2500 rpm and thats if you where really babying the car.if you pushed down on the gas pedal it would bog and die.so i figured it was the cat.so i gutted it.now it goes to like 4700 then falls on its face and only if you baby it.i just wanna get it running right before i put the new motor in because if that problem is still there i dont wanna have to chase all the problems at once.

Is it like you're hitting a fuel or spark cut at 2500 or 4700 EXACTLY, or is it that that's just where it happens to happen +/- a few hundred rpm?

I wonder if his mother and I have met. that would him one ugly kid though, for his sake I hope not!

Trying to run it with a melted cat may have done some damage. Do a compression check on it, if everything reads right give it tuneup; cap and rotor, plugs, air filter, oil change and reset the computer and see what that does for you. Even if the motor is a loss $500.00 aint a bad deal if the body is in good condition.

well it was 2500 til i gutted the cat which i figured was cloged.now its at 4700.any ideas.i apologize to themadscientist i picked the number cause thats my sn on all my other website/forums and the numbers are the same my sons b-day

i just did the tune up it cleaned up a little bit but its still pretty bad. i did the plugs wires cap.the rotor i got was wrong.im gonna do the fuel filter and add a ton of gas.

the body aint that great either but i have another motor with 30,000 miles on it i picked up for 150 with a stage 3 clutch

did the fuel filter too.still doing it.im going to do a compression test this week any help in the meantime would be great

check the compression if its bad then go swap in the other motor u got.if its good comp i dont really know...still swap it

Drop your downpipe off of your exhaust manifold, fire it up and see how it goes from there. Sure it will be loud, but it will give you an idea. Just hope it is'nt running rich, I'd hate to see you go up in flames.
