Okay guys, I'm leaving tonight to head to Peacock, Michigan. (9 hours and change)

It's a surprise for my grandmother!! (My family isn't actually getting together for Thanksgiving... well, my dad's family isn't actually getting together for Thanksgiving.) But I'm getting together with my grandmother... I've not seen her in a few YEARS! (and I usually go home every year so it was hard.)

Safe trip, blah blah.

You guys gonna miss me? Didn't think so ;oD

I'll be back on Saturday/Sunday.

I've read a lot of the articles on this forum of everyones issues and bling add ons and your Camel is an original I must say. I just posted an article since I've had no issues to post about up until now. So have a safe trip to cold country and enjoy yourself!

You went to Michigan to visit Kimber's grandmother, too?

Better luck with your trip, Kimber!

Yeah... Have I got a tail for you...

Okay. So the trip to Thanksgiving was interesting. I left at 10 pm on Wednesday and the trip through Kentucky and Ohio was uneventful. Then I hit Michigan...

It had been raining for some time... but it wasn't slick yet. On 23 at 3am a car just randomly spun out in front of me... the did a 360, then went off the highway, turned 180 and started back toward the highway... They stopped, perpendicular to the road, over the shoulder and I passed about an inch and a half in front of them. After they entered the spin, my step-mom called and so the Camel was ringing while I was watching the other car. My step-mom was making dinner... go figure. She really didn't seem interested in the fact that a car had just spun out in front of me (surprise, surprise)...

Then, about 10 miles after I got off the phone with her I really had to pee. At this point it had started to snow and get slick, I was driving about 40 mph. I was coming to an exit with an overpass and as I got real close, I noticed a BP truckstop off to the left. I looked at the exit and it was one of those tight turns that advised to take it at 30 mph. I didn't think I could move over, slow down, and make the curve without careening into something so I decided to pass the exit. As soon as I came out from under the overpass, a rock hit my windshield. I didn't flinch, jerk the car, step on the brakes, (etc) ... I just thought, "I want to be home now." (I also didn't wet myself, which is a good thing.)

Well, I called my mom, and she was like, "get off the road" so I pulled off in Hartland, Michigan (a.k.a. BFE). The only thing open was a Shell station so I pulled in there (and peed) then called my insurance company. After an hour of conversation it basically amounted to "you're screwed till Friday, Happy Thanksgiving." ... so I called Amy and cried (briefly) and then I called the cops to get a report filed (since there'd be a lag before getting it fixed and I was in another state). Well, after another hour, it turns out that kids were chuckin' rocks off the overpass. w00t! So I waited another hour for the officer to call me. And then I headed back toward Brighton. I ended up at the Brighton state police post (after passing it... but I did find) just as the 3 troopers on duty were leaving... so I had to wait. and I had to pee.

I don't have the balls to squat and pee behind a police station... so I drove to the gas station (after much debate) which ended up being closed. Long story short, I peed behind a shed behind the gas station. Then I got back to the police station just before one of the trooper's returned. It had now been 3.5 hrs. So I go in and the trooper has all of my information and is doing the report, when my phone rings. It's the cop who is doing the report on the incident. ... Once again, long story short, the two officers converse and the trooper writes my report to save me from back tracking to Green Oak township and I get on my way... 4 hours of my life gone.

Awesome, huhn?

Thursday it's being replaced with a new Nissan windshield. (I finagled a piece of Nissan glass since it's a 2007... otherwise my insurance wouldn't have paid for the Nissan glass, I would have had to get the off-brand).

I can't take ol' Camel anywhere. ;oD

Why do some call the Versa a camel? Lol... Interesting to call it, I'd say.

She calls HER Versa the "Camel" because it is dressed up as a Sopwith Camel.

Kimber - glad to hear you're home safe, and that your insurance didn't fight TOO much to get you Nissan glass.

Would you like if a bunch of us NICOers had a meet in Michigan to beat the crap out of some juvenile delinquents?

I definitely give two cheers to me not wetting myself...

As to everything else I've neglected so far...

Ratbobo:Yes, thank you!! I love Ol' Camel (actually, one of Teagan's therapists commented to me the other day on how unique my car was and how everytime she sees it it makes her smile)... it makes me smile every time I see it too... though, a little less with the whole cracked-windshield-thing...

BillyBeaneBall & Kc5f:I tried to have a safe trip... .... being as I'm from Michigan, but haven't driven a Michigan winter in three years... I think I did d@mn skippy (as opposed to all the natives who crashed and burned during the first snow of the year).

CodeRed:I sincerely hope my luck changes... I've only had this Camel since May 25th... Maybe this is the prior Camel's revenge for trading it in??

Shant J:No really, I'm just crazy. XoD

EV:hmmmmm.... I'll get back to you on that... I still need the report so I can see who they were >< (I say that, but I know better... they're juveniles so there names shouldn't be listed... I just hope the little buggers straighten up and fly right before they end up dealing with my kinda office... ol' adult probation and parole...)

DJButton:On the upside... I did still get to enjoy my holiday... I just think of it as an 'amusing aside' without which I really wouldn't have had much of a story to come home with... "I sat and discussed Lilith, 2012, and the greater implications of life with my grandmother for three days while we put together puzzles and said 'aw jeeze, it's cold' " isn't really all that thrilling...;oD

sweet sweet justice...

The State Farm agent in Michigan called me, apparently they have given that office the duty of retrieving my police report... and the guy I talked to said they'd request restitution for the wipers and wiper arm... I just need to fax him my bill...

YEA!!!

Little buggers, that's what you get! (The windshield was $680ish and the wiper arm and 1 blade was almost $50... and I haven't gotten the second wiper replaced... but I also received $60 as part of my travel expense part of my insurance coverage... Their parents will kill them... ha!)

Did you have to say anything particular to get the insurance company to use Nissan glass instead of aftermarket, other than just being a 2007? I've got to replace my windshield and want to do the same as you.

I talked with the glass shop and there is only one aftermarket windshield for the V... I'm assuming that the price difference wasn't too great (since the insurance company went for it)... in the end it is totally up to your insurance company, but it doesn't hurt to ask (or leave the glass installer to do the talking for you, which is what I did).

... hope that helps.
