Yeah... Have I got a tail for you...
Okay. So the trip to Thanksgiving was interesting. I left at 10 pm on Wednesday and the trip through Kentucky and Ohio was uneventful. Then I hit Michigan...
It had been raining for some time... but it wasn't slick yet. On 23 at 3am a car just randomly spun out in front of me... the did a 360, then went off the highway, turned 180 and started back toward the highway... They stopped, perpendicular to the road, over the shoulder and I passed about an inch and a half in front of them. After they entered the spin, my step-mom called and so the Camel was ringing while I was watching the other car. My step-mom was making dinner... go figure. She really didn't seem interested in the fact that a car had just spun out in front of me (surprise, surprise)...
Then, about 10 miles after I got off the phone with her I really had to pee. At this point it had started to snow and get slick, I was driving about 40 mph. I was coming to an exit with an overpass and as I got real close, I noticed a BP truckstop off to the left. I looked at the exit and it was one of those tight turns that advised to take it at 30 mph. I didn't think I could move over, slow down, and make the curve without careening into something so I decided to pass the exit. As soon as I came out from under the overpass, a rock hit my windshield. I didn't flinch, jerk the car, step on the brakes, (etc) ... I just thought, "I want to be home now." (I also didn't wet myself, which is a good thing.)
Well, I called my mom, and she was like, "get off the road" so I pulled off in Hartland, Michigan (a.k.a. BFE). The only thing open was a Shell station so I pulled in there (and peed) then called my insurance company. After an hour of conversation it basically amounted to "you're screwed till Friday, Happy Thanksgiving." ... so I called Amy and cried (briefly) and then I called the cops to get a report filed (since there'd be a lag before getting it fixed and I was in another state). Well, after another hour, it turns out that kids were chuckin' rocks off the overpass. w00t! So I waited another hour for the officer to call me. And then I headed back toward Brighton. I ended up at the Brighton state police post (after passing it... but I did find) just as the 3 troopers on duty were leaving... so I had to wait. and I had to pee.
I don't have the balls to squat and pee behind a police station... so I drove to the gas station (after much debate) which ended up being closed. Long story short, I peed behind a shed behind the gas station. Then I got back to the police station just before one of the trooper's returned. It had now been 3.5 hrs. So I go in and the trooper has all of my information and is doing the report, when my phone rings. It's the cop who is doing the report on the incident. ... Once again, long story short, the two officers converse and the trooper writes my report to save me from back tracking to Green Oak township and I get on my way... 4 hours of my life gone.
Awesome, huhn?
Thursday it's being replaced with a new Nissan windshield. (I finagled a piece of Nissan glass since it's a 2007... otherwise my insurance wouldn't have paid for the Nissan glass, I would have had to get the off-brand).
I can't take ol' Camel anywhere. ;oD
