Well yesterday I did some tweaking under the hood and went for a drive. The car was running strong so I went out to the industrial park. I got on it in first from a roll and the clutch slipped on the 1-2 shift!! I've only had it for about 5000 miles and the 3-4 shift has been slipping for about 2 weeks. Oah well.

I do go to some form of automotive event 3 weeks out of the month usually so i'm hard on the car.

I ordered an ACT HDR6. Hopefully that does the job.

I'm actuially surprised because i'm not making huge power. Probibly only about 230 to 240 to the rear wheels on a perfect day.

My Spec II slipped on me a few times and I've been about 6k miles on it so far. The only times it has slipped was after back to back runs at the Gulfport track (usually around 3 runs and it won't catch after 10psi). I am going out there tomorrow nite to see what will happen to it :ylsuper . I hope it at least last until I get my next motor in. It is such a waste to put a new clutch on a motor I won't be driving around for a long time.

I got Spec II clutch on my car too. Going on 4000 miles so far. Let's see how far I can get out it.

Are you sure that it is adjusted properly? It may very well be worn now, but is the pedel "let out" in about the center?

yes the clutch slipped after 5000 miles. The clutch is adjusted properly. I JUST replaced my clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, and got a NISMO braided steel line. There is the proper amount of play before the pedal starts to engage the rod as well.

Wow, that just seems short even if it has had the hell beat out of it. I mean I would have expected it to last at least 15K. I hope my ACT HDSS hold up a little better.

From all I can tell, its only the Spec II's. I think it is the kevlar that can't handle the high amounts of frictional heat. At the track, after a few back to back launches at 6k rpm, my clutch won't catch anymore until it has fully cooled down. Also, my pedal is adjusted correctly from the beginning install. It has always grabbed at the last 25% of the pedal. A friend of mine with a Spec II on his KA also grabs the same way, so I know it is working right. As I just said, I think this clutch wasn't made to handle such vigorous activities, just rated to hold a constant amount of torque. I for one will never buy another Spec product again.

isnt kevlar that bullet proof material?

Dont they use that stuff on toilet cleaners also so that dirt doesnt coat the toilet.

Making the surface slippery?

Is that the unsprung 6-puck?

You should have gotten the sprung 6-puck from spec. Unsprung is a little rough no?

We'll see. Everyone told me not to get the lightest possible flywheel for my old CRX because it would loose streetability. They were right but in about 15 minutes i was used to it and had forgotten it was there.

The reason i didn't go with spec again is because i'm just not sure if i want to risk another 300+ bucks. i KNOW the ACT will hold all the power i can make and it will take any abuse i can dish out. I'll deal with the harshness. I'm a madman on the street anyway :D (not really)

I hope i'll be able to say that! I'll let everyone know how it is once it's in the car. I'm hoping to have the KA internals in and the clutch finished in about 2 weekends from now.

I have an ACT sprung street disk, it's rated at 369ft.lb. I haven't had any slipping problems that i've noticed. But once it was raining and I wanted to see how much wheelspin I could get, I ran it up to 4th gear smashing through the gears, and when I got out it smelled like burning clutch really bad, ever since then the pedal does not feel right. I think I might have messed up the slave or somthing, I don't see how. It does not fully depress or somthing. Either way it still holds fine without slipping. The ACT is good. I'm probably putting down 220-230whp

Yah i've done that a couple times with my Spec. It would spin freely in fifth with my old tires. I've also done several burnouts at various events just to show off. (Also on the strip at panama city, It was great!) Maybe they killed the clutch... Still i figure the Unsprung 6puck should hold.

Ya, I did a few burnouts the other day:http://www.racingonthestreet.com/cars/240sx/videos

After the 3rd one I started smelling clutch, so I stopped. It didnt seem to be slipping though. Is that normal to smell the clutch?

You'd be suprised...I got my car on the road finally (KAT, yes I'm lurking in the SR section just for fun) and when I'm driving right, I can have perfectly smooth shifts with an unsprung 6 puck ACT with heavy duty pressure plate. I can also leave from a stop as smoothly as any other manual I've driven. I'm not totally used to it, but its a much more streetable combination than I'd been led to believe. Also, thats with a fidanza flywheel.

Yes on the bullet proof material, no on the rest. I am pretty sure you are thinking of teflon. I don't want a teflon clutch.
