first of all, I know this topic has pretty much been beat to hell, but I am still having problems. I have a 1993 240 and the problems are mainly because the previous owner decided to install an alarm, then rip it out when he sold the car. The resulting wiring in the dash is a tangled nightmare. From my limited electrical knowledge, it looks like the black/white wire coming from the ignition switch will keep the car from starting. i have attached a pic from an FSM that points to the wire I am talking about. Can anyone confirm what this will do, or have a better solution (besides fuel pump, I am planning something for that later)?

Also, there were also some random fuses missing from the panel in the drivers footwell (like reverse lights), and another one missing at the bottom of the left column 10A labeled "Electronics (IG)." Does anyone know what this fuse does? I can't notice anything not working. Thanks in advance.

Ok, I guess nobody knows... But after looking at the diagrams some more I think that it would be a better decision to use the black/red wire. PLEASE correct me if I am wrong, but I think that doing this will kill the "ON" position of the key. Also, I am not sure whether I need to use a relay or if just a switch will do. Please give me some input cause I don't wanna torch my car!!! :help

sure, I can send any page you need, it is just I don't have image hosting (yet) and the 300x300 attachment size is a killer. just let me know your email and I will send it to ya.

agree w/ gumby; but it (along w/ other anti-theft devices I installed) has kept my car from being stolen from the streets of NYC... when I get confident enuff in the electrical field; i'm gonna pull that sob out.

find a friend that installs alarms, they can get you a table of all the wires/colors of the essential components. i know that my ignition wire is black/yellow on my 95

not all of the fuse spots will be used due to different specs for your car (ex: rear wiper/defroster not optioned in). your reverse lights still work even though theres no fuse? if they do then someone rewired it around the fuse box (which would be pretty weird). mine has wiring problems as well, when i swap in my new engine im starting from square one.

yeah, I think I determined that the empty slot was for the HICAS, which I don't have. The reverse lights weren't working, and it stumped me for about 20 minutes until I thought to check the fuse cause there was no current at the sockets.

PLEASE HELP, don't wanna blow up my car...

I have installed a toggle switch on the black/red wire I was talking about before. It kills the ignition so you can crank the engine but it won't spark. I used an automotive toggle rated to 50A. Can anyone tell me if this is safe? It seems to work fine, I just wanna make sure I won't have problems down the road. Thanks.

You should be fine if you're switching the right wire(sounds like you are). 50A is MORE than enough for that wire. It'd be factory wired with 12-10 gauge wiring(pretty big) if it was pulling more than 50A. If it's a "normal" sized wire then it probably has no more than 10-15A going through it max.

you'll probably love the way my friend installs alarms. He yanks out the shock sensor , puts in the radar and door pins and trunk pin and hood pin. No false alarms ever. Only if there is actual entry. He also hooks up the starter kill to the fuel pump. So even if they cut the siren , hotwire it and try to kick start the car , your baby is not going anywhere with them! He also stuffs the alarm in top of the dashboard and changes the colors of the wires.
