I loved Kill Bill Volume 1. As a youngster, I devoured the old chop-socky Shaw Bros. grindhouse martial arts flicks. Spaghetti Westerns especially the Sergio Leone's -The Good, The Bad and the Ugly...Once Upon a Time in the West - rank as some of my fav movies.
Suffice it to say I was really amped up to see this Kill Bill Volume 2. I guess I'm in the minority here because I walked out of KBV2 feeling a bit underwhelmed. Tarantino pulled a big Yin-Yang here, I really enjoyed the experimental, devil-may-care attitude of the first flick but I felt Volume 2 was a bit too talky and contemplative for its own good. Some parts seemed overlong without forwarding the plot of the story- the scene where the clubowner berates Budd and the chit-chat with the geriartric pimp with the annoying accent- and no real payoff.
But there were some really cool parts that were worth the price of admission alone - the Pai Mei flashbacks, the Bride being buried alive and the fight in the trailer.
All in all, Kill Bill 1 and 2 makes for an enjoyable Kung Fu/Western mix tape.
Oh yeah, I just rented Hero from
http://www.greencine.com and I'm speechless. SOLID cast, incredible fight choreography, dropdead gorgeous visuals from the best cinematogropher in the business. This movie reminds me why I watch movies.
