It's called a gas pedal.

Hi i'm the one who got beat by an MX6....... i did mean a kick down switch, i have a 1995 j30t "canadian model", and when you press the accelerator all the way down you would hear a switch that engages in the last 1cm of a full pedal press, it gives the engine "injectors and so on" and the transmission a different programming, try it out, it is fun, i use it every now and then. it is not explained much in the service manual, but if you have a shop service manual, you will find a brief explination there. i'll try to post the page, i dont have a scanner but i'll take a photo of the page and post it this week.

Every car has one.

i'm not sure what is it called but it makes one heck of a difference when needing power from the engine, although i'm pretty confident about the program setting for the engine, i will double check, and take the photo of the page and post it sorry if i misslead anyone as i'm not sure about the name of the switch

The tension rod is easy to do ..Be sure and torque the main bolt with the load applied to the wheel !!

I used a block as I dont have a ramp.

Some call it a kickdown switch, some call it a throttle switch, some call it a wide open throttle switch.

You will probably hear a slight click when you really punch it from a roll.

I also believe that the "kick down switch" is also directly tied into the fuel gauge. When the "kick down switch" is activated it causes the fuel gauge to drop towards the "E" mark at a faster rate!

I drove the J to work today and played around with it alittle. I can hear the switch click when I push it all the way in. The difference in acceleration from just before it clicks to when it clicks is not very much and I don't think the transmission is connected to that switch as it would "kick down" long before I got to the point that it would click.

My guess is that it just changes the ecu mapping and puts it on a preset program that increases the amount of fuel injected to the maximum amount possible. (along with changing the a/f ratio, etc, etc.)

It does, along with raising transmission pressures. And of course effecting at what RPM it shifts.

The "kick down switch" is simply tied to the throttle position sensor, to give maximum possible voltage to the ecu when you demand it.
