Im having an issue with my 03 pathfinder,

symptom is isolated to one action, lets say travelling at a constant speed of 80kph, speeding up to 100kph. Whats happening is when the computer kicks the revs up theres a semi-sharp bump under the car, mid to rear location. Kind of like its taking up the slack.

Is there some adjustment to be made to remove the play in the diff?

Probably not the differential. Tolerances on those in the thousandths of an inch.

Are you 2 wd? I'm thinking something in the driveshaft.

Ahhhh, so shes an Ozzie girl. Heard a lot about those Ozzie girls, have never met one tho.

There are a few things that come to mind here.

- Could be as simple as a loose exhaust pipe or broken hangar.
- Could be a universal joint in the front or rear drivehaft.
- There is a slip joint on the rear drivehaft - if this gets dried out it can cause clunking (driveshaft comes off for this). Most people report clunking at low speeds. Still worth looking at it tho. There is also a grease fitting on the front driveshaft that may need grease.
- Pretty uncommon, but could be a broken / loose rear transmission mount. That sits right under the transfer case on the frame crossmember.
- When you press on the gas to speed up, your transmission unlocks the torque converter. This causes revs to increase. It is possible there is a problem there. Sometimes dirty fluid, sometimes a bad solenoid, occasionally the torque converter itself.

I think maybe have someone look at it and see if there is anything obvious. If you are due for a transmission fluid service, and they don't find the problem, that would be my next move.

Swapped the drive shaft with my '00 pathy, the symptom persisted and remains on the '03

looking at both mounts, possible issue. The '03 looks as if one area has collapsed, compared to the '00 which appears quite a bit 'squarer'. If you look close, you can see where its received some treatment, both photos are facing forward
