Howdy all. I was car pooling some 13 year olds this afternoon and they thought the Versa was a gay car.

Yes that's right - a gay car. Like that new VW bug thing with the flower vase.

I told them that if the Versa was a gay car then they didn't want their butts in it and they can get out and walk.

Do you think the Versa has a [gay] car image?

Or would that just be those that mod it..?

My gay cars have RWD, manual transmissions and big turbochargers, how about yours?

Seriously, you need to get out more. Or at least try to keep up with the times. Hyundai and Kia have made great strides over the past decade to build cars that match, and in some cases exceed, the Japanese automakers. Hyundai's recent rise should be a model for the US automakers that somehow still insist on blaming only external causes for their demise.

How Hyundai came from the early-90s Excel, which was about the cheapest POS since the Yugo, to making cars like the Sonata, Soul, and Genesis is truly astounding. And Kia, Hyundai's 'value' brand, has cars with most of the same components/architecture. Comparing a present-day Optima with the first Kia's brought to the US is a night to day contrast.

What cracks me up about your juvenile take on this subject is that there were countless folks who harbored this same grudge against the Japanese marques in the 70s and 80s. It took nearly two decades for Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, et al to overcome this same brand of prejudice.

Call me crazy, but I doubt the Versa has anywhere near the residual value of a Corolla (or a Honda product). That's not a slam on the Versa, just a conjecture based on the fact that Nissans usually don't hold their value as well as some of the other Japanese brands.

I'm not defending the Korean brands because I own one, and nor do I see myself owning one anytime soon - but it sounds like you need to get over your hatred of these brands.

I disagree, Hyundai's are easily equal to Nissan in quality and re-sale value, and a lot of sources would place Hyundai above Nissan in this respect, Edmond's for one example. I love my Nissan but we have a Hyundai Santa Fe in the family and it is fantastic, to be honest I would've bought one but it was a little too pricey and my Rogue was more in my price range. Anyway, my point is there is no reason to disrespect the Hyundai!!
