Hi, i just bought a 91 240sx. The owner, for some odd reason, didn't have any original keys for it. The copies he gave me were cheapos. Is it possible for me to take my car to a nissan dealer to have them make OEM keys for me?

i think any shop that specializes in car keys can get OEM keys for you. I know the place here does. you can give them your lock cylinders and such and they will re-key em and give you the keys.

You can go to the dealership and give them the vin # and prove it's your car and they should be able to print you a key that way. You can also go to napa and buy a new lock cylinder that'll come with keys. Unfortunetly It only comes with the ignition switch and two keys for it.

Yeah, my mom had the same problem with her eclipse- her only key was a copy of a copy of a copy etc. . .- it didnt work very well at all- very hard to open the doors. so she went to the dealer- proved he car was her's and they cut her an OEM key which works like butter. Not sure how much she paid for it but probably around 30 bucks.

s0ldats: no prob.

now to everyone else- when i bought my 240 the guy said something about havin either the doors or the ignition rekeyed- so i have a separate key for the doors and for the ignition. This bugs me, it bugged me on all my previous american cars too. I want ONE key for all my stuff- any ideas on what the cheapest route would be to get this done?

Nissan also put a sticker in the glove box with the key code on it. A key shop cut me a key to code once, it cost about $15. I found out later the dealer does it for $3.50.

You can buy the black head, original type key at a dealer or ebay and get the dealer or anyone else to cut it.
