Hi, I have a UK spec 1996 maxima (QX 3.0 SEL auto).A while back my multi remote control just stopped working.I tried a new battery...didn't fix it. I tried my spare remote...didn't fix it.I have tried the reprogramming procedure (keys in and out 6 times etc) this doesn't work either (nothing flashes on my instrument panel..nothing happens at all!)I visited a nissan dealer today he didnt have a clue.I read through a nissan tech cd-rom (ebay) and from what I can see, I think the lcu05 (keyless entry system) might have gone into fail safe mode or just died? Funny thing is, my dad has identical car and exactly the same has happened to him.Does anyone have ANY ideas? Can I get the LCU out of fail safe mode?Any help would be VERY welcome...I'm going crazy!!Also, my idling sometimes sticks at around 1200-1500 rpm if I give the gas pedal a slight sharp tap...it comes back down to 800ish rpm...It does this all the time?? Any ideas? Thanks!

Ok you have a variation of the VQ engine in it I assume. If its injected I would start by checking tps adjustment. Your engine is not carberated is it?

On your keyless problem. Take a look at your key cyl switches at both front doors and the trunk make sure they arent stuck in the lock or unlock position as this would put it in a "fail safe" condition. Also take a look at you hood pin switch, make sure it is opening the circuit when the hood is closed.

Hi,Thanks for the reply. Yes, my car has the VQ engine...the car is nearlyl identical to the I30...just grille and badges are not the same I think. There aren't that many over here really and any info and parts, especially performance bits are very hard to get hold of. How do I check the TPS adjustment??Regarding the keyless system, everything seems to be OK with the door locks etc...Do you think my LCU05 Is DEAD?? can the LCU be reset in any way (to get it out of fail safe mode)? Thanks again.Dave

Its not really a failsafe mode. It is mearly in a locked state. Meaning it wont except any inputs. This usually occurs when a key cyl switch on the back of the door key cyl has fallen off and is in the unlock or lock position, keeping the system in a lock out state.

To do a tps adjustment go check out the maxima technical forum. I think the procedure is there in a sticky.
