Just thinking about this as I was browsing the forum. Does anyone know off the top of their head how much it might cost to get a keyless entry system or if they even make one for a 90 240? I havn't looked into it at all or anything, just a random thought, so don't flame me with your "SEARCH" ****~

You can get a keyless entry for any type of car. I wouldnt think more than $150, but maybe im wrong. I guess it depends on the quality and brand of the keyless entry

Been looking at that also lately... check out etronics.com - I've seen em go as low as 40, but don't know about install prices.

Also, I don't think it has to have power locks because I have a base model 90 hatchback and it had keyless entry with the old alarm (but was taken out later...) Just need actuators for the locks and you're set.

You don't need factory power locks at all. Just get some door lock actuators and use an alarm. You can probably get it all done for 200 to 250 dollars. And feel safer about your car in the process.

Like he said.. no need for power locks, I didn't have any..

I think I paid $110 or so for the alarm and then another $65 or so for the actuators and the relays for the actuators..

Easy as pie to install

W/ my alarm I can also rig up quite a few addons.. remote start, a hatch actuator, its got a hood pin so its goes off if the hood is open.. if any door is open etc etc

Pretty good alarm.. i hooked up a s000pah bright blue led to flash when its armed so it looks hightech and ricey.. oooh yea

Do you need actuators for S13 power locks? They dont have an electrical button that unlocks/locks. Its just the pull flap thing and if you pull the drivers, the passengers opens too, but no visa versa...

I got some quotes locally and generally the systems are about 90-130 alone (although I can get them for 40-50 online), actuators another 100 for both and installation varies from one store to the other...100 for actuators is kinda a rip though...

Actuators go for $4/each on eBay. Installation should cost like $100-$150. Depends on the shop.

It's cheaper to get an alarm that has keyless entry. I got my 2-way LCD pager car alarm for $85 on eBay. It was a steal at that price because it had similar features with a high end Viper or Clifford alarm unit. I only paid $175 for installation including keyless entry. The owner of the shop was shocked when he found out how much I paid for it.

It should work but you'll need to carry two remotes. The shop that I took my car to told me that stock alarm units don't work with other cars unless if you know how to modify it. I think the same rule goes for aftermarket alarms and stock keyless entry. I could be wrong though. If your car already has keyless entry and your alarm has a keyless entry feature, then you might be able to change the relay to your alarm unit. Just a thought.

I dont really want an alarm, cuz it will most likley get in the way of a turbo timer, which i plan on using.

I think thats only if you get the 4 or 5 wire actuators.. there are two wire ones that lock/unlock at the same time via remote or you can just unlock/lock each one manually

The 4 or 5 wire works w/ the other actuator so unlocking the driver door unlocks the passenger door like you said.. seemed kinda like a waste to me; its not that far of a reach.. save some $$ :)

No no no, That power lock system is the OEM one that came on the car...thats how it works, should I just get one actuator for the drivers or what? Im sorta confused because of the stock "power" locks.

Also note, Im hoping to spend around 150~ or so to get keyless entry. Including install and actuators...I dont think its worth anymore.

aleph1 your situation requires 1 actuator on the drivers side. and some sort of aftermarket keyless entry or alarm with keyless entry.

alarms only get in the way of turbo timers if you don't know how to plan the entire system correctly as well as execute the install correctly.

most turbo timers are capable of bypassing motion sensors untill the timer has shut down the car.

I never thought of that. I guess the alarm wont set cause it thinks the car is still running. Dont most alarms have a 'passive' feature that sets the alarm after 30 secs or so? Maybe you could set a longer delay on the alarm so its sets when the timer turns off.

use relays and diodes to isolate ign power sources. this is not a big deal to do. any good alarm installer will be able to pull it off.

Does it matter what actuator style? From what I have seen there is "Gun style" and this box looking one. 2 wire, rev. polarity? Im not sure if it will interface correctly with the oem actuator.

Im thinking of getting the Viper 210HV from etronics.com, its only 40-50 bucks.

gun style actuator is best and easiest tommount most of the time. the alarm or KE system will tell you what type of wiring to do. you need a 2 wire actuator and a pair of bosch 30a spdt relays along with your KE product of choice.

Read the above quote and you will find what you need. Next time please read the info in the thread before mindlessly posting a question. This is what typically happens around here so people tend to get a bit perturbed about it.

i did read the above posts.

it said that i would not need a pwr dl motor if i get a alarm with the KE system.

but i dont want the alarm. i just want the KE system.

so i was wondering if i can still hook up a KE system without pwr dl and only using the actuator.

what will you use to transmit the romote to ??? romot cant just transmit the signal to you power lucks. it needs a transmitor to transmit get it ? :). ANd also the power lucks is hook up to the transmitor so you have no choice but to use the transmitor. the transmitors also is a part of the alarm, remote altena, siren, power lucks so pretty much to my guess you need the full alarm system to work with power door lucks unless you get the cheap power door luck unit which cost 49.99 at an auto store like, AUTO ZONE, NAPA, CHECKERS, etc. GOOD LUCK..

the answer to your last question is YES.

get a decent ke only system. ADDITIONALLY you will need 2 actuators (with mouting hardware), 2 spdt relays, wire, butt connectors, a roll of 3m electrical tape, and a handful of zip ties. take it to a professional alarm installer and have it installed for no more than 100 bucks.

that should answer your question

just go to the shop and ask them, what can they do for u, and then use that shop as a base to compare, its too confusing here because people dont actually know what u have/want, and they are just telling u what they did, meaning its probably different then what u want, go to the shop and ask question, it doesn't cost any $$$
