On my 90 Q there is no keyless entry. I would like to install a keyless entry module only. That is, I want to keep the factory security system working. I had an old Prestige (APS-2) alarm/keyless in my 91, but it conflicted with the factory setup sometimes.Any suggestions?

Well, it has taken me a long time to reply to myself, but, a question.

Is the later year anti theft module (in the dashboard) with keyless interchangable with my 1990, and is the transponder integrated into it? The object being to find a later and swap them. Then I or an installer won't have to circumvent the factory system.

There is no "factory" keyless entry system until '94 model, so nothing to work around.

I've got a Viper (550HF?) with Keyless Entry and Remote Start. The unit still works flawlessly and it's been in there for YEARS.The key to a good alarm is more often the installer rather than the unit itself. Make sure you use a good shop or you'll be in for a nightmare.

I understand the conflict between the factory and aftermarket systems. The key is understanding the factory system - it works on ground pulses from various inputs. I took a full day of testing ground pulses from various inputs and working to understand the logic of the OEM alarm... If you integrate everything properly, you can make everything work correctly without having to make sure no one locks their own door on the way out. Diodes are a must!

A far simpler way to solve the problem is to completely bypass the OEM anti-theft module by unplugging it and install the new system, since most of it's protections are redundant...

I'll try to sort through my notes and send you some diagrams if you really want to do this... the results with the newest Viper 550ESP are awesome... I can start the car from the 7th floor of a building across the parking lot with no problems at all!

I agree that most of the protections , save perhaps the lock cylinder circuits, offered by the factory system are redundant to a good aftermarket system.

In my 91, the factory system still functioned, so, a passenger who locked a door, or having the trunk open after the doors were locked, etc. would trip the factory setup, making it necessary to run to the door with the key. I did not unplug the module behind the glovebox to disable it.

I think that is the way to proceed. If anyone has done this and found no other devices that are wired through the circuit (a la Honda radios) I'd appreciate hearing about it.

I guess at least two of you recommend Viper?

I believe you can also disable it by removing the hood pin switch, or grounding it's input to the OEM alarm. The factory alarm won't arm if you lock the doors and leave the hood open.

I used the factory inputs to the OEM alarm for my Viper (Hood switch, trunk switch, door inputs, etc.

Might check the Clifford Avant Guard. DEI owns almost every body now, so check their site for info.
