Hello All,

I have a 2001 Infiniti QX4 and I'm trying to figure out why my keyless remote only opens the drive side door, but not the passenger doors. I have reprogrammed the remote successfully. Replaced the remote battery. I press the remote once and the driver side door unlocks just fine -- I press it again to open the passenger side and nothing happens. I do hear some clicking going...almost like some type of relay is engaging.

It locks all doors just fine...not sure what to make of this issue.

All the help would be appreciated.

Thanks,J

Does it unlock both back doors?

And do the switches unlock the passenger door?

Keyless does not open the back doors. The interior switch unlocks all doors just fine. Anything else?

Thanks.

Do the hazards flash when you press the unlock button the second time (to unlock the rest of the doors)?

If you press the unlock button many times the other doors never unlock? I had an issue with my remote where the driver door would unlock with the first press and I would have to press unlock a few times (or more) until it would unlock the rest of the doors. The remote entry system was just very sluggish and it was described as being normal by the Nissan techs as my local dealer.

Sorry, but pressing the unlock many times does nothing for me. I do have correction though, when I press the unlock button the hazard lights do blink. Hopefully that provides some insight to somebody.

Thanks!

This is strange. Both the swiches are routed through the Smart EntranceControl Unit, so we know the path from the SECU to the solenoids is good. Andremote also talks to the SECU, so we know that path is good because thehazard lights flash. Wierd.

Do you think I have a bad SECU? Is there anything that I could try to verify this? Where is it located?

Thanks!

"Behind instrument lower panel driver's side" is what the FSM says. There's a crummy line drawing.

Do you know where the coin tray is to the left of the steering wheel in the driver knee panel? Well the SECU is attached to the side of the fuse box behind that coin tray (when you pull the coin tray out). You will need to remove the driver knee panel to access the SECU.

I'd put my money on a problem inside the drivers side door. Thats where the little electronic mechanism is, to open all 4 doors (im not talking about the switch - im talking about a seperate little electronic sensor on the actual lock cylinder/tumbler) When you press the remote button to unlock, that little sensor gets pressed and on the second press, it unlocks all the doors. I know this because when I disconnected the plug to it, all of a sudden only my drivers side opens with remote but nothing else. When you put your key in the drivers side door, and turn it twice, do all 4 doors lock/unlock? If no, try it in another lock (pass side or hatch) and see if the symptoms change depending on which lock you use.

Fueler, the '01 PF FSM doesn't show that, and it doesn't make sense to have aphysical device when a little bit of firmware in the SECU (zero cost) wouldhandle the timing.

Always remember Kettering's Law: Stuff you don't put on the car costs nothing todesign, nothing to make, and nothing to fix. Now Kettering died years ago,but it still applies. If you can do it in firmware, do it. It costs less to design, nothing to make, and is trivial to fix (firmware upload).

Now, maybe one of the switches is stuck closed, and that's confusing the SECU. Atthis point, that's the only thing that makes a little sense on this bug.

Thanks fellas for the insight....so what do you think is the best bet here? Should I remove the SECU? Is there anything I should try to reset?

Thanks! This has been very helpful.
