The battery died in my keyless remote. I replaced it but it still wouldn't work. The Nissan place said they would charge me 150.00 to reprogram it. I found this post by Louis123

Quote from post by Louis 123"I recently had to replace my remote, but I was unable to find anywhere on the Web the instructions for registering the remote unit with the car's computer. I eventually obtained the following instructions from an Infiniti Dealer and I have posted them below.

1.Get in & lock the doors

2.Insert the key into the ignition 6 times within 15 seconds

3.Hazard lights should flash

4.Put key back into the ignition & turn to run position but do not start.

5.Hit the lock button on the remote

6.Hazards should flash. If there are additional remotes go to step #7 if not goto step #8.

7. Unlock and lock the doors with the lock switch on the door and goto step 5.

8.Pull key out and open the drivers door and then close it

9.It should be set

IS this what they were gonna charge me to do? I miss having my keyless entry.

Thanks for any input.

YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!!!

They guy who just worked on my car said if I brought it up there he would reprogram it for free. My husband is buying me a new battery today and I'm going to see if that is the problem.

Well I followed these instructions to a T. The hazards came on the first time but it still didn't set my remote. Guess that means it's dead. I just put a brand new battery in it.

Yes. It only flashed after I did steps 1 & 2. Not after I step 6.

ignore step 5 go from 4 to 6. 5 is in the wrong order. you do that step between remotes.

so you got to the point that the hazards flashed and you turned the key to the on position where the service engine soon light, oil light, and other various lights in the instrument panel come on? at this point is when you press your remote button . try all the buttons on your remote till the hazards flash. if they dont flash your remote or the smart entrance control module has a prob.

dealers have a remote tester in the mandatory tool supply and can test your remote. Our service advisors do it as a courtesy for or customers.

take it to your local nissan and have them check it on thier tester either via the perts department or the service drive. the should do it for free cause all it involves is turning on the unit (not much bigger then a TV remote control) and pressing the buttons on your remote. if it beeps the remote is good. if it doesnt its bad.

Thank you once again. On the directions I had it said turn it to ACC. Well that doesn't turn on my check engine soon light, or any of the others. Could that be the prob? I'll check it one more time, if that doesn't work then I'll take it to the dealer. I'm sooo glad you were online.
