A friend of mine installed a Key2SafeDriving in his son's car. http://safedrivingsystems.com/ Simple design, programmable on a home computer, plug into electrical maintenance diagnostic port. Also tamper proof... video>>>> http://www.clickorlando.com/video/21101893/index.html

Basically it blocks voice and text messaging from his son's phone when the car is on and running.

-It will allow phone calls from your selected numbers you program into it, such as calls from Mom and Dad ("where are you?").
-It will allow emergency 911 calls.

Less than $100 bucks.

I think it is a good idea for the new driver. Not so sure about having it in my car. I try to not text but find myself doing it every now and then, and I couldn't live without the voice. If you believe the statistics in the video, It's becoming a big problem and worthy of discussion.

Amazing...

I just hope she doesn't realize she could just unplug the device from her diagnostic port

People who need this need to learn some self control first.

The people buying it for their kids should have taught them the dangers of driving while using a phone long before they ever handed them the keys of a motor vehicle.

It's not for the kids' sake, it's for everyone else on the road. Kids won't listen when their parents aren't around. That's certainly nothing new. Kids are dumb, it's as simple as that. This keeps them from being a risk to everyone else on the road.
