key wont come out of the ignition? at.

hi all

when i shut off my car and go to push the lock and pull out my key the button wont push in. i know on the autos you have to push the gear selector foward.what i was wondering is there anyway to just disable the lock alltogether.

bump for someone who can give me an idea of what to do.i forgot to mention that the button no longer has to be pressed in order to select gears on my car.

Uh, other than making sure you put the AT in park, then push it forward til it clicks, the only other thing I can think of that wont lemme take the key out of the ignition is sometimes I have to turn the wheel back and forth until it LocksHope this helps

thanks for the help.the problem is that my gear selector is busted so when i push foward there is no click.i dont even have to push the botton to go from park too drive. by button i meant the one on the side of the gear selector.

cant help you there, ive never had to mess with my transmission/gear selectorits a long shot but try looking over the FSM for any clues as to what isnt engaging right?

I know on the Manual it has the key release button and you can disable it by removing a few pins but the autos I dont know....Try Pulling the colum apart and looking at how it works.
