ok, weird question. I purchased a wrecked Z and trying to restore it.

When I got the car the keys were in and for some reason I can't pull them out. Does this have something to do with the security system? The car will start fine but I just can't seem to manage to pull the keys out.

giving you benefit of the doubt that you are pressing the release button, take it to a locksmith, not a hardware store, a true locksmith anc handle such isses quickly and for a reasonable price, I seem to buy a lot of cars where keys had been broken off in them for years and one wasn't even the right key!

haha, there's a key release? not so much a stupid question... I've never had a car w/ a key release... or I've just never had the problem on any of my cars. I'll have to check it out after I get back from work. Thanks.

uh.. also.. why would you ever need to lock your keys in the ignition?

It's to prevent them from coming out and locking your wheel while driving. This started in 1987.

so I'm guessing there's a button to lock it in as well? I have a S14 and I've never had this problem. On my honda's I've never had this problem either.

there is a button next to the keyway that most of us develod a habit of hitting with out knuckle as we turn the car off so the key comes out without a second thought, you don't lock the key in it's just a safty release they decided to start using years ago, some cars you have to push the key in as you rotate is back, same idea different method
