I own a 1993 J30t and it only came with 1 key, which i think its the wallet key because it opens the doors, starts the car, locks the glove box,but will not open the trunk from the outside. The manual shows 3 keys which by the way look like they are cut different. I would like to know if there is a way possible to get the key number from the dealer or get the other 2 keys from the dealer if it does not cost alot? I hope somebody can tell me something! Please Help!

Update: I found out that i may have the security key,but mine will open and lock the glove box which the owners manual says it wouldn"t. So if this is the case i don"t have the master or wallet keys. Still would like to know if i can get the key number from the dealer for the other keys!

Your trunk probably never has been opened with the key. Your trunk lock is likely seized. You need to use a product like liquid wrench or WD40 with the straw attachment. Spray it good and be patient, you'll probably have to repeat it several times over a few days. Park you car with the trunk in direct sunlight. Warmth helps spread the lubricant through the locking mechanism. See if that does the trick.

Sounds like the valet key to me, which should just start the car for the purpose of having someone else park it with your valuables inside of the trunk, after you've set the switch inside of the glove box to disable the trunk opening switch on the armrest, and then locked the glove box with one of your other/real keys.

Way too complicated, SoCal and expensive for me.

The valet keys in the 1993 and 1994 models where a one piece silver unit with the Infiniti logo engraved, miked12601 has stated his key has a black cover with infiniti emblem.

All I have is the Titanium key with the logo and it opens everything.

It's time for me to hunt for all keys, test them and to re-read portions of the manuals. It would make most sense for the wallet key to be as flat and compact as possible, meaning no black plastic cover on one end, and I suppose the plastic could easily break-off/be removed.

And how about miked12601's armrest mounted trunk latch release button; is it currently working or not? What's the word from a dealership?

My son was able to use a concealed number (the door needed to be opened up) inscribed on one of his 1986 MR2 door locks to have new keys made at a local Toyota dealership.

More to follow.

All my original keys for the 97 work the trunk lock.

I'm with driverdriver, spray that sucker down with liquid wrench and gently work the lock with the key. It may take several days.

I tracked everything down and put it all in one place, everything except the Key Number Plate, that is obviously kept in a place so secure that no one will ever find it, including me.

On a Toyota MR2 the Key Number is stamped on the passenger's side door lock (the door needs to be disassembled to see it) and I can't imagine that there's not a similar number stamped somewhere on the J30).

- Remote controller - Master key (titanium, 1 of 2) - Wallet key - Security key

driverdriver is correct; you have a Wallet key , but you already knew that.

I tried my very unused Wallet key in both the trunk and the glove box, and it doesn't work nearly as well as either of the nicer titanium Master keys.

Maybe..., though looking at the keys in the photo more closely, the key with the black cover on top is the most different in terms of how it's cut. Notice the different widths of the center ridges. I sure would rather sit on a totally flat Wallet key, as opposed to one that has a bump causing black top cover piece, plus a Security key with a black top cover piece would be easier to keep track of in the valet parking process.

The illustration in the manual isn't that conclusive, until you notice the fine details, and I wasn't able to open my glove box using the key with the black top cover. Don't force it and double-check the position of your glove box located trunk lock switch, if you can open your glove box at all.

It took awhile for my wallet key to work, mostly due to the fact I either use the remote or the latch release on the driver door. I had to use lots of liquid wrench in the trunk lock to get it to work.

The more I look at the keys in the photo and the owner's manual diagram, the more I'm convinced that the key with the black covered top is the Security key, plus it just makes more sense. There's even a fine line in the diagram that indicates the presence of the top black cover piece. Once the locks are more worn and it's been made to work, there's no going back.

It probably won't be possible to cut new and really accurate Master keys using a Security key as the template. Hopefully a dealership or locksmith can/will help with both locating your Key number and cutting some new keys.

The maroon leather key keeper came in a box that originally came with the car, along with a few other goodies; an Infiniti pen, note pad, etc, plus the glove box owner's manual, mainentance record and warranty statement each in their own separate maroon leather pouch.

The brass/chrome key J30 fob is an after-market item that was a gift.

I'll keep you in mind when I part with the car, as you are probably one of the few who might appreciate those items.

Maybe they didn't include them in the later years?

So I did some more digging around and located a small stamped aluminum rectangular plate that could be the Key number plate for my '93 J30 (the small hole in the plate that I found is punched to the right of the numbers, though).

The numerical format is like that in the photo/diagram; an X followed immediately by four digits. You might find your number stamped on one door, ignition, glove box or trunk lock part. Maybe start with one at a wrecking yard or ask someone who is parting one out? Happy hunting and did they make fewer than 10,000 J30s in 1993, as there are only 10,000 numbers including and between X0000 and X9999?

Dealers reportedly don't keep a record of/give out the number, and that's probably a theft liability/prevention thing, more than anything else.

I only got one key, the master, with my used J30T. The previous owner said he couldn't find the others. But anyway, I got a duplicate made at Home Depot really cheap that works. BTW, neither key will open my truck unless I spend about five minutes jiggling it around in the lock.

WD40 is worth a shot on your truck lock.

they tend to freeze up a bit because most of the time its popped open by the drivers door button or the remote.

Further to the Liq Wrench/WD40, I'd suggest an air can with a straw(used for cleaning computer circuit boards) to blast/force the spray oil all around the interior of the lock. It can't hurt, right?
