My key for my 240 is cracked and i took it to a lock smith to get it copied but he said it was to worn down. I asked him what i could do and he said that on some cars there was a number in the glove box that you can take to a locksmith and they can recreate a key from it. Has any one gone through something like that and if so what did you do?

Thanks for all your help Eric

my key was broken off in my hatch wheni bought it.

I took it to the nissan dealership (where i used to work) they got the number off the key and they made me a new one for free...

If you don't have the original, they can use the VIN #, i believe, and make one. It usually costs like $15, and U have to bring like the title and insurance to prove it's your car.

Go to the dealership and they will probably just ask for your VIN number then check it in the computer. At least that is what SHOULD happen. For some reason, my number wasnt in the Nissan database or whatever, so they just copied my current key, but I dont think thats an option for you...

By the way it was only 10 bucks and I got a real Nissan key, yay.
