my car in now 2 weeks old, with this, the 2nd post! Sometimes, my car won't start, until i turn the key for the 20th time. The red car/key light flashes on the dash. I googled it, too bad not here on NICO, and found the key(s) need to go back to the dealer for reprogramming. Is this true? When I originally went to dealer service, last week, they told me to be sure to start the car with my foot on the brake..NO s***!!!...So after being stranded with this s*** inconvienence of no-start until trying for the 20th attempt, is that true??? The keys need to be re-programmed.

Do you keep your key next to a mobile phone?

Odd. I think it is unlikely that the car needs to be reprogrammed to recognize the key, since it occasionally recognizes your key.

I may be wrong, but I believe if you have a red car/key light, you have the smart key entry system?

If so, before trying to twist the ignition - push it in then twist. Pushing the ignition toggle in unlocks the ignition-lock & engine immobilizer.

Another possibility is that the battery in your key fob isn't seated well, or is low on charge. I'd suspect the latter if it weren't a new car. But that's what started to happen with mine until I swapped out the battery a month or so ago.

thanks for the reply. My versa has a basic key entry, no sentry access. I've spoken to a Nossan Master, & he said from 2007 on, tha cars have an immobilizer (NATS), and validate crank (VBC) will not allow starter to operate. The body control module needs to be replaced and all the keys re-programmed. Tech service bulletin (NTB10-106). Just more s*** with new computerized cars. Thanks
